Description

A Stark Bro's Exclusive!

Double your harvest! Unlike tip-bearing apple trees, this tree’s spur-type nature allows fruit to form along each limb — bearing from the trunk out. This means more of your favorite Golden apples from one tree. May crop heavily, so thin fruit to avoid biennial bearing and fruit drop. Harvest a bounty of crisp, juicy apples with delectable sweetness and a hint of spice. Originates from Parker, Washington in 1961. Cold-hardy and heat-tolerant. Self-pollinating.

Betty N on Jan 12, 2017
Purchased primarily as a pollinator for the other varieties I purchased, but I like Golden Delicious flavor too. I picked the Starkspur variety over the regular Starks GD because why wouldn't I try a tree that can produce twice as much for the same price?! Hopefully this tree's lack of disease resistance won't become too big of a problem in my area.

are there any dwarf trees that are rust resistant ?
thomas on Sep 19, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. There are several apple varieties that are rust-resistant. We actually have a whole collection of them, which you can read about here:

are there any apple trees that will grow in our zone 10A, we have had a golden delicious apple tree that has grown here for nearly 50 yrs, but is nearing its end of life and I wanted to start with a new tree?
Patti P on Jan 9, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Pretty much all of them that have a zone 5 or greater the golden delicious variety should work
I have a honeycrisp Apple tree that is about 5ft tall. I???ve purchased this tree which will be 1.5-3ft when it arrives. Is the difference in size anything to be concerned about? Or should I have purchased an older tree to pollinate with?
Amanda P on May 3, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The size of the tree is not a significant factor to be concerned with. There is a price difference in the sizes of course because the older tree has had more care and time put into it. My trees all came in in the 1.5-3 ft range and they do grow fast. They have an adequate heavy amount of blossoms this year as a first year tree for me and I am quite happy with their growth. There are more than likely many trees in your area that will act as cross pollinators also for your trees so I would not worry about them getting pollinated. Follow the care guide for the trees with adequate water, fertilizer in the spring and protection if needed from the winter and your trees will reward you with many years of beautiful shape ,flowers and fruit.
for 4 northern spy apple trees, how many pollination trees are recommended?
Dave F on Jan 3, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I bought Golden delicious apple because that is self pollinating. I need only one apple tree but if you have more space more than one will give more fruit. Mine is not dead and I hope I can get fruit soon.
If the Starkspur Golden Delicious is in a pot, is it better to put it in an un heated garage for the winter?
Paul J on Jun 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Live in southeastern Massachusetts. Have left two small Japanese maples (small pots) in my unheated garage for the last two winters and finally got around to planting them this spring. Both doing great. Not the same trees that you are asking about.... but I think you???ll be ok.

Taste-wise, are there any major differences between apples grown from this tree vs Stark Golden Delicious Apples (#6350)?
G M on Jan 15, 2020
BEST ANSWER: We appreciate you reaching out to us. These are the same great Golden Delicious with no difference in taste. The difference is how the tree produces fruit. The Starkspur is a Stark patented product since 1952! "Spurs" mean bigger harvests! Starkspur?? trees are different from regular trees which bear fruit only on the outside limbs. The spur allows fruit to form on each limb and bear from the trunk out - doubling the amount of fruit.

If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to reach back out to us. Have a great day!

What's the difference between Starkspur Golden Delicious and Stark Golden
Delicious apples?
Ann A on Oct 26, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Starkspur?? trees grow fruit from the ends of the limb all the way down the branch to the trunk, va. a non-spur-bearing tree, which bears fruit on the end of the limbs (most fruit trees bear this way). You will get at least twice as much fruit from a Starkspur?? tree.

A wonderful tree for the home garden
I purchased the Starkspur Golden dwarf over 25 years ago and planted it in my front yard. It has grown into a beautiful 20 foot tree with an 18 inch diameter trunk. It fruits prolifically (300 Lb) every other year producing the most delicious tangy, juicy and crisp fruit right off the tree in October (zone 6a). Let them ripen on the table a week or so and they are as sweet as you could want and just the slightest bit mealy. On the off years it produces about 40Lb. It's never had a problem with rust but it does develop scab if I don't keep up spraying during wet summers.

First time purchase
This was the first experience I've had with purchasing and planting a bare roots tree. The detailed instructions and care information available was awesome for someone who has never planted a tree. It's been about a year since planted and the tree is flourishing. It has grown so much over the past year, establishing roots and has lovely green leaves. :) I have bought three additional plants since and had the same great experience from Stark Bros. Would highly recommend them.

Producing in the 3rd year
This is the third year for this tree and it had a moderate amount of apples growing. I have heard that this type of tree has a production pattern of heavy one year and lighter the following year. Tree is probably about 15 ft. tall now.

As usual I expect the best from Starks and it always arrives the best. My little 4 foot Yellow Delicious tree was eager to be planted and to burst open it's mightiness. Thanks Stark for being so professional.

Flowered the year after planting!
Beautiful little tree that overwintered great in Southeast Alaska. I was shocked this spring when it burst into profuse blooms after being in the ground only one year. Of course, I'll pinch off all the flowers to give the tree a chance to grow a bit more first. If someone has an established tree that needs pollination ASAP this would be an excellent choice. Whether or not it can produce a ripe apple in our short season is another question....I like pushing the limits.

Excellent fruit trees
Our purchase of a couple Apple trees and a pear tree was literally the first trees we had ever bought. They are growing into beautiful trees and we are so happy with them. One thing I have learned is that every bug and animal loves to eat fruit trees. It's been great taking care of our small backyard orchard. Thanks for such a great product.

Flowering in the South
This tree flowered the first year I planted it. I did pull them off so it could focus on growing. It grew about 3 feet! This is its second year so I let the flowers be. I’ve got a few small apples on the tree already and it’s still flowering. Can’t wait to try them.

Just go to year one
I ordered my first Sparkspur Golden Delicious Apple tree late April of last year and it Arrived fast and packaged really well. I was a bit concerned ordering a tree online but having work in the landscaping industry for years the packaging was perfect. I planted the tree that weekend and saw very little growth over summer but strong green leaves.

I ordered my second Starkspur golden Delicious the fall of 2016 this time i ordered the tree with the advanced root system and forgot to fence tree in so deer got to the tree. I am pleased with first year.

Spring of 2017- Both trees survived the winter despite the one tree getting nibbled on by deer. My advice spend the extra few dollars and purchase the advanced root system. Despite, getting nibbled on by deer and having 5 additional month in the ground the tree i planted in May seems to be a bit behind the one planted in the fall and just looks better.

I am very pleased with the apple trees I even purchased a Gala apple tree this spring and also purchased some tree prep so we shall see if that helps the trees grow faster.

Feedback will be on going.
