Description

A premier cooking apple. Named for its exceptional fruit size. Tree bears large, attractive, bright-yellow apples splashed with red. Flesh is firm and juicy, with a tender texture once baked — perfect for pies and other desserts. Antique variety, thought to originate from New York or Connecticut, circa 1800s. Cold-hardy. Ripens in late September. Best pollinators: Cortland, Empire, or any Golden Delicious.

A year after planting
My twenty-ounce apple tree arrived in good shape, and has done very well in its first year. I chose this variety because it was one that I grew up with, and you rarely see it any more.
