My wife like Bananas. I like elephant ears, so a decent compromise. Just in time for mothers day. :)

Can a banana tree be grown in a house in a container?
Fred S on Mar 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Absolutely as long as it receives plenty of light if kept indoors. There are several varieties that will stay very small in a container. Look for varieties that are dwarves. Dwarf Cavendish do very well in containers. If you plan on sticking the container outdoors in the summer, just be sure to give it plety of water. Bananas are heavy drinkers and dry out fast.
Has anyone had any bananas grow on their trees?
Allen S on Feb 21, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Not yet but I am super happy with the plant. It is tall and beautiful and is doing
very well. Hopefully I will get some bananas from it.

A very striking indoor plant
I live in Washington, DC, so I was concerned that my banana plant, which lives indoors by a window, wouldn't have enough warmth and sunlight. But the plant is doing great. In 3 years, it has gone from a tiny sapling to a 4 foot tall behemoth, with each leaf about 2 feet in lengths. All my visitors comment on how strikingly love it is. It drinks quite a bit of water, but it otherwise very easy to care for.

Love it!
Tho it was difficult to keep it alive over the winter, we did. It takes commitment to move in and out of the house. The first year he grew about 3 1/2 foot so far this year it's grown another 6 to 8 inches. It's just unusual and something fun to watch grow we're enjoying it
