Description

The Gold Nugget Mandarin Orange Tree produces juicy, easy-to-peel fruits over a long harvest season! These compact trees start blooming as early as February or March, with the fruit holding on to the tree through July and August.

This hybrid is a cross between two tangerine varieties: The Willing and Kincy. Gold Nugget Mandarins are named for their golden yellow-orange color, they’re closer to the size of an orange. The fruits have a slightly flattened, round shape and textured surface, ranging from glossy and finely pitted to externally bumpy, depending on tree maturity.

The rind is easy-to-peel, releasing bursts of fragrant oils when torn. Once removed, it reveals a bright orange flesh. The flesh is soft, tender, and mostly seedless. Gold Nugget citrus has high sugar content balanced by mild acidity, creating a sweet, fruity, and subtly tangy flavor.

Perfect for snacking and juicing, these easy to grow fruit trees are also disease resistant and even frost tolerant.

Why did you choose this?

I bought this fruit from local groceries store in San Francisco and really loves the taste of this fruit.

Heard good things about this specific mandarin.

My grand kids love mandarins

Juicing baby

Can this tree be grown tn a container and kept to 7 feet in height?

I bought mine last year, I'm in zone 6. I planted it in a big pot and over wintered it in my sun room. I think you could keep it at 7 ft with pruning.

how tall will it be  when I get it ?

When I received mine it was about 24 inches tall and it's grown another 13 inches. it bloomed and bore 2 good sized oranges for it's 1st Season

Can this plant survive frost?

I bring mine inside for the winter, its in a large Italian clay pot. I am located in North Texas. All my citrus trees come in for winter and are moved back outside once temps are at least 40 degrees consistently. Hope that helps.

Is the gold nugget a vigorous grower?

This will be my second full summer with this tree
I live in central Arkansas
Where I live at least it is growing very slowly even with semiannual fertilizer
It arrived very healthy and two feet tall after two summers it’s only grown about 12 inches
It looks like we might get a few oranges this year
When I bought this I was unaware of the larger thorns all over the tree so be aware of that
But again in my area this tree is growing very slowly
Hopefully this helps you in some way

Why does my golden nugget have thorns?

Do you want the evolutionary answer or the faith based answer?
Fact based answer:
Thorns represent the modification of an axillary shoot system in which the leaves are reduced and die quickly and the stems are heavily sclerified and grow for only a limited time (determinate growth). Thorns appear to protect the plant against herbivores.
Faith based answer:
That’s how God made them

Just to be sure, it will survive in winter/ below freezing temperatures with no special care ?

I tried to nurse mine through at just one zone north of its suggested by covering it with fleece and keeping it close to the house and in full sun all winter but it didn't make it - everything was crispy brown and the wood had dried out. I'd say if you live in its preferred zones, you should still plan to wrap it in fleece ahead of forecasted cold spells.

Are your golden nuggets mandarins grafted ?

Yes this variety is grafted.

are citrus trees grafted ? do you send citrus tree to the state of California ?

It depends on the grower if a variety is grafted or from seedling and we do ship to California.

Do you ship citrus trees to California ?

Yes we know are able to ship citrus to California.

How big is it?

Since its out of stock, we do not have the size in which we would offer. Once the item becomes available that information will be available at the top of page under "choose an option However When your tree matures, it will be approximately 8 - 12' tall x 8 - 12' wide.

I purchased this tree in 2022 and it is growing beautifully! I fed it with the citrus fertilizer that I purchased from Stark's early in June of 2022. I have about 25 blooms beginning to open and it looks like I may get some fruit this year. It is in a pot on my patio in full sun in zone 8b. I did not prune this plant as I prefer to leave it in bush form at this time. All of my trees and plants from Stark's have been healthy. Stark's Customer Service has been excellent with any issues and questions that I have had. Very happy!

Received a healthy tree
This has been my favorite citrus ever since I tried some of these from Walmart. So I had to buy one when I saw that stark bro’s has some. I got a really healthy tree in the mail, there was a little bit of powdery mildew on some leaves probably from shipping but it didn’t do any damage at all and is practically gone now. It’s growing right now alongside my lemon tree that I planted from seed. I’ll keep you guys updated on if it fruits. Wish me luck on my quest to grow citrus in the Midwest lol.

Golden Nugget Mandarin Orange Tree
She started off fine. Had a strong storm and she lost all her leaves. Have babied her, but she has not grown anymore, nor did any leaves come back. Sad. Bought another and will see what happens.
