Golden Nugget Mandarin Orange Tree
Description
The Gold Nugget Mandarin Orange Tree produces juicy, easy-to-peel fruits over a long harvest season! These compact trees start blooming as early as February or March, with the fruit holding on to the tree through July and August.
This hybrid is a cross between two tangerine varieties: The Willing and Kincy. Gold Nugget Mandarins are named for their golden yellow-orange color, they’re closer to the size of an orange. The fruits have a slightly flattened, round shape and textured surface, ranging from glossy and finely pitted to externally bumpy, depending on tree maturity.
The rind is easy-to-peel, releasing bursts of fragrant oils when torn. Once removed, it reveals a bright orange flesh. The flesh is soft, tender, and mostly seedless. Gold Nugget citrus has high sugar content balanced by mild acidity, creating a sweet, fruity, and subtly tangy flavor.
Perfect for snacking and juicing, these easy to grow fruit trees are also disease resistant and even frost tolerant.

Questions & Answers
I bought mine last year, I'm in zone 6. I planted it in a big pot and over wintered it in my sun room. I think you could keep it at 7 ft with pruning.
When I received mine it was about 24 inches tall and it's grown another 13 inches. it bloomed and bore 2 good sized oranges for it's 1st Season
I bring mine inside for the winter, its in a large Italian clay pot. I am located in North Texas. All my citrus trees come in for winter and are moved back outside once temps are at least 40 degrees consistently. Hope that helps.
This will be my second full summer with this tree
I live in central Arkansas
Where I live at least it is growing very slowly even with semiannual fertilizer
It arrived very healthy and two feet tall after two summers it’s only grown about 12 inches
It looks like we might get a few oranges this year
When I bought this I was unaware of the larger thorns all over the tree so be aware of that
But again in my area this tree is growing very slowly
Hopefully this helps you in some way
Do you want the evolutionary answer or the faith based answer?
Fact based answer:
Thorns represent the modification of an axillary shoot system in which the leaves are reduced and die quickly and the stems are heavily sclerified and grow for only a limited time (determinate growth). Thorns appear to protect the plant against herbivores.
Faith based answer:
That’s how God made them
I tried to nurse mine through at just one zone north of its suggested by covering it with fleece and keeping it close to the house and in full sun all winter but it didn't make it - everything was crispy brown and the wood had dried out. I'd say if you live in its preferred zones, you should still plan to wrap it in fleece ahead of forecasted cold spells.
