About the GA-866 Jujube Tree
The GA-866 Jujube, often nicknamed the “Sweet Giant,” is one of the highest-sugar jujube varieties available, reaching an impressive 45% sugar content when fully ripe. Its large, oblong fruit—up to 2 inches long—ripens to a glossy reddish-brown and offers a crisp, apple-like bite when picked early. As it matures, the texture becomes chewy and date-like, earning jujubes their traditional name, “Chinese dates.”
Highly versatile, GA-866 fruit can be enjoyed fresh, dried, candied, or used in cooking and herbal preparations. The tree itself is just as appealing, with thin, shiny leaves, attractive bark, and fragrant mid-summer blooms that add ornamental value to the landscape.
Naturally drought tolerant and well suited to warm climates, the GA-866 Jujube is a reliable mid-to-late season producer known for excellent fruit quality. Planting another jujube variety nearby can help boost yields, though GA-866 often bears well on its own.
