Description
A special late-summer treat. Rich, sweet, melting fruit is similar to a cherimoya, but more flavorful and much larger: Potomac® pawpaws often weigh 12 ounces or more apiece. The medium-yellow fruit is packed with minerals and micronutrients, but is low in calories. Enjoy the fruit fresh, or purée it and freeze for later use. Not suitable for dehydrating; seeds can be harmful if eaten. The tree has a pleasing upright growth habit and attracts butterflies and songbirds. Cold-hardy, deer-resistant, disease- and pest-resistant. This Peterson variety prefers moist, well-drained soil and partial shade in the afternoon. Ripens in September-October. Grafted. For proper pollination, plant another grafted variety nearby.
