Description

Flavor, flavor and more flavor. Fruit weighs up to one pound each! Another outstanding Peterson variety that’s become a farm-market hit. Firm-textured, banana-colored flesh is fruity, sweet and oh-so-custardy, with a wonderful aroma and pleasant finish. Very few seeds. Tree is a good yielder. Takes well to proper pruning and well-drained, deeply dug, slightly acid soil. During its first few years shield it from afternoon sun, then give it full exposure for the largest crops. Ripens in September. Grafted. For proper pollination, plant another grafted variety nearby. May be covered by USPP #14,452 or other patents. ‘Wansevwan’ cultivar.

I noticed the price went up quite a bit from when I was last on the site. Does the pricing affect the size of the that is shipped? How tall of a tree would we expect to receive for the $50 cost?

No Concern Went Into Preparation to be Shipped
Absolutely NO concern went into preparing my EXPENSIVE purchase of 4 Pawpaw trees to be shipped.

I received 4 trees that were 1 foot grafted saplings (Actual measurement of the sapling, does not include the root structure) in a 4”x4”x 12” plastic growing container. The plants overall size from top to bottom of growing container is 1.5 feet

The grow pots were sitting inside of a plastic bag with a 4 foot long bamboo stick shoved down through, and protruding out of, the bottom of the pot. During shipment the bamboo stick had caused the soil to break away from the root structure on all of the trees.

Considering the fact that Pawpaw trees are hard to establish in their first 2 years of growth, and that it is important to package them with extra packaging material in order to limit plant movement, stress and damage during transport, I would have, taken the bamboo stick out of the pot, added wood shavings or packaging material inside of the plastic bag packed tightly around the root ball which would have limited the soil movement and loss.

There was a label on ONE of the 4 different varieties of trees, so I have no idea which Pawpaw is which.

I have ordered from Stark Bro’s in the past and was happy with my purchase of hazelnut trees, which is why I returned as a customer. If the Pawpaw trees do not survive, I will not return as a customer in the future.

I will update this review in the spring
