Why did you choose this?

Because I wanted a traditional Bosc pear

Needed to add another item to get free shipping, these were on sale, I do well with pear trees, and bosc are great to eat

Bosc pears are my favorite variety of pear because, unlike many other varieties, they have a nice taste even if they are not completely soft yet.

If other pairs that are good for polination are not in my zone, how would I grow this pare?
I am in 9A zone

Hi Gretchen, You might be able to find a zone 9 compatible pear tree from another source if we do not have one at this time.

Fire light resistance??

Kieffer, Seckel, Starking Delicious, Moonglow, Magness and Harrow Delight may have some resistance, but best plan is prevention. Don’t fertilize heavily, prune only in dormancy, and spray with antibiotic or copper during blooming..

Can you can this pears?

Absolutely! These pears are great for canning and last a very long time in cold storage too!

We live in the Rogue Valley with its abundant pear orchards. Do I need another pollinator in my yard or will the orchards be adequate pollen? Yard is about 5-7 miles from nearest commercial orchard.

Typically pollination happens when the trees are planted within 100 feet of one another and ideally 50 feet. I do not believe the orchards 5-7 miles away will pollinate your tree,

How long before it bears fruit ?

We appreciate you reaching out to us. You can find the years-to-bear information in the Characteristics section, near the top of the page, underneath the description. This tree takes 4-7 years to bear.

What is the rootstock for the dwarf option?

We appreciate you reaching out to us. We use several different rootstocks, depending upon the desired result and what is available. For that reason, we're unable to guarantee a specific rootstock.

I ordered this Pear and Starkbros said I needed a pollinator so I ordered the suggested Bartlett Pear which was cancelled. Now I need another and dont see 1 for my zone 9a and when I click on the Bartlett it says it's not for my zone. Why did the site tell me to plant the Bartlett for a pollinator?

The website only offers suggestions for pollinators, unfortunately it does not do this based on zone. This is why we list what zones it is compatible for and then you would need to choose accordingly. We do not always have the pollinating partner and in this case you may need to look locally for a pear tree variety that will thrive in your area.

What size is the Golden Russet Bosc Pear tree when shipped? Also, will a Seckel pear be a good pollinator?

That will depend upon which option you choose. Please see the "Choose an option" dropdown menu near the top of the page, which will show you the various sizes/options that are available. Yes a Seckle can pollinate this.

if I already have a peach tree, Fig Tree and blueberry tree, do I need to buy 2 pear trees to pollinate?

The same variety cannot pollinate itself. You will need another pear variety with a similar bloom time in order for good pollination to occur.

One species cannot pollinate another; for example, a plum cannot pollinate an apple, and a pear cannot pollinate a peach. A fruit tree that requires a pollinator needs a different variety of the same species that has a similar bloom time.

Bosc Pear Tree
I bought the sapling on sale near the end of planting season in a warmer-than-average spring. With the evident help of mycorrhizal fungus in the planting hole but without the benefit of commercial fertilizer, the sapling grew 24" its first season and looks to do that again this second one.

Missouri Tough!
I purchased a three pear trees last year during the spring sale. They all survived the crazy Missouri weather that included a couple freak hail storms this spring. They are all looking good and have a lot of new growth for this year.

Nice trees
Bare root trees have taken off better than local trees I bought. I couldn't find a Bosc tree locally so was very happy to find one here.
