Description

One of the finest non-astringent Asian cultivars. Large, non-puckery, firm fruit, featuring fiery orange-red color (with fall foliage to match), and a sweet, mild flavor due to the low tannins. Rich in vitamins A and C, and full of anti-oxidants. A very popular persimmon for fresh eating or in cooked dishes, both sweet and savory. The tree itself is easy to maintain, with only light annual pruning required. The wood is extremely hard and is prized amongst woodcarvers. Keeps 1-2 months in refrigeration. Ripens in mid-to-late October and is somewhat cold-hardy. Grafted. Self-pollinating, but will produce more/larger fruit with a Maekawa Jiro nearby.

Excellent trees
We ordered two Japanese persimmons. They arrived late March. I planted them in huge planters because it gets too cold here in the winter and they will be moved indoors once it gets too cold. They started leafing out a couple of weeks later and started blooming late April/early May. Both trees now have several fruits on them which I hope will grow and ripen. I'm surprised that the trees are doing so well after just having been planted!

I can't tell anything yet since it's winter , I'd be able to give some info probably in summer .
The process of buying and shipping was easy and convenient, I also got thorough advice how to cover my tree in view of approaching cold weather. Staff is very friendly and communication is nice and easy. So far , I like to buy plants from starkbros, I use their products for more than 10 years.

The replacement we didn't know we needed.
Tree is amazing. Tree was a replacement, however, not knowing what the other variety tasted like, my family and I are very pleased with this one. My kids love them, especially when dehydrated. Tree was planted in 2022 and we got 31 fruit this year. Tree is also gorgeous.

Great little Jiro Persimmons tree
Really happy with my Jiro persimmon tree. It comes grafted so I was worried it would not grow. It gets going really slow....But after a few months it began budding and growing new leaves. No fruit yet but I am hoping the next few years I will get some fruit. It grows rather slow so need some patient with this persimmon tree. Hoping the tree grows bigger, thicker and taller because the trunk is rather tiny right now.
