Size & Spacing

Mature Size

When your tree matures, it will be approximately 15 - 20' tall x 15 - 20' wide.

Recommended Spacing

We recommend spacing these trees 15 - 20' apart to ensure room for growth.

Pollination

This variety is self pollinating.

In many cases, you may still want to plant pollinating partners to increase the size of your crops, but with self-pollinating varieties doing so is optional. You'll get fruit with only one plant!

I purchased persimmons once from a grocery store and loved the taste but couldn't remember the specific type. I ordered the Hachiya because my father told me about the kind he used to eat growing up. I decided on this kind because I want to give it a try.

When planting pollinating partners for this tree should it be two of this exact variety or should the partner tree be a different variety persimmon?
Deezle on Jun 20, 2020
BEST ANSWER: We appreciate you reaching out to us. Even though this is self pollinating planting another tree of a different persimmon variety will help yield larger crops.

What size are all the trees when you ship them out ? I see nothing about this in any of the material I???m reading
Marsha G on Apr 21, 2020
BEST ANSWER: When shipped, regular bare root trees are about 3-4' tall and/or with a 3/8" or larger trunk diameter. A Stark?? When Supreme trees are shipped, they are about 4-5' tall and/or with a 5/8" or larger trunk The EZ start trees ship 1.5-3 feet tall with an advanced root system.

My land is in an area where crop dusting is common, will that hurt the young tree?
Elizabeth O on Jan 5, 2020
BEST ANSWER: It depends on how close you are to the crop dusting. Is it a few feet or a mile or more? If it's a mile or more, you don't have to do anything. If it's closer, then contact your local agricultural extension agent and ask. They'll answer all your questions. If it were me, I'd ask the extension agent anyway.

If I planted a Hachiya now in October will it survive the winter here in 08088 (Southern NJ)?
William H on Oct 9, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hi William, This is a really good question. The weather has started to change here in MO and our trees and plants are getting ready to start dropping their leaves to go dormant. Because of this, you should be able to safely plant now.

Please keep the below conditions in mind when deciding if now is the best time to plant.

1) when the ground is not frozen, 2) when daytime temperatures are above freezing (32??F) and below 90??F, and 3) when extreme weather (blizzard, hail, torrential rain, etc.) is not in the forecast. Be sure to keep plants watered if you're transplanting in warm and/or dry weather.

If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to reach back out to us, remember that we're here for you. Have a great day!

Outstanding, very pleased
By chance, we planted this tree approx 7 years ago. It produces a large beautiful delicious fruit that will amaze you and your neighbors. The persimmon is as large as my open hand and only one can be held at a time. This year we had 60-70 fruits and at approx 1 cup of pulp avg, that’s a lot of glorious fruit!
