About Elephant Organic Garlic

Elephant Organic Garlic – the colossal member of the allium family that brings a unique twist to your culinary endeavors. While more closely related to leeks than true garlic, Elephant Garlic shares similar growth habits with a few delightful distinctions.

Each bulb of our organically grown Elephant Garlic holds four to six enormous cloves, surpassing the size of regular garlic bulbs. These cloves, often weighing in at a pound or more, boast a mild garlic-like flavor that adds a delightful hint of pungency to your dishes. Peeling these cloves is a breeze, thanks to their easy-to-peel nature.

What sets Elephant Garlic apart is its exceptional storage capacity. Despite its giant size, the bulbs store very well, resembling the longevity of soft-neck garlic varieties. This makes it an ideal choice for market gardeners looking for a popular and profitable crop.

Growing Elephant Organic Garlic

Elephant Garlic thrives in colder climates and is known for its cold hardiness, making it a reliable addition to your garden. It typically matures in approximately 270 days, delivering a mild and impressive garlic harvest. With 3-4 large cloves per bulb, this unique allium not only brings an onion-like taste but also adds a touch of novelty to your culinary creations. Additionally, Elephant Garlic produces scapes in early summer, which can be harvested for an extra culinary treat.

Our garlic is USDA certified organic, meaning it’s grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. This ensures healthier, sustainable crops, supports biodiversity, and improves soil health, providing you with the highest quality produce for your garden and kitchen.

A half-pound set of garlic contains approximately 3-4 bulbs. Each bulb contains several cloves for planting. The actual quantity may vary depending on bulb size.

Survival Guaranteed!

Since 1816, Stark Bro’s has promised to provide customers with the very best fruit trees and plants. It’s just that simple. However, because annual plants are naturally short-lived and complete their life cycle in a single growing season, our standard one-year survival guarantee does not apply to annuals. If your annuals arrive damaged or fail to thrive within the first 14 days after delivery, please contact us immediately so we can make it right. For all other plants, our full one-year warranty still applies. Read more about our warranty policy.

Is any type of garlic considered to be deer resistant?  Or resistant to other critters such as squirrels?

Normally deer, squirrels and moles and voles stay away from any allium family member. BUT, you may experience some digging...use camphor cakes or moth balls on the outside edges if you need extra protection. The perennial bulbs of crown imperial also can be planted in your garden beds. The bulb has a skunk smell for animals and keeps diggers away...added benefit is beautiful flowers in the spring!

Is this a soft neck variety?

Elephant garlic (Allium ampeloprasum) is technically a type of leek, not a true garlic, but it grows and tastes similarly. It is considered a hardneck type by behavior and appearance, though it's often treated like a hybrid between hardneck and softneck.
