Reblooming aspect
Kevin R on Mar 13, 2021
I tried one bush first. It has done well in a difficult area. It is compact, reblooms, does not seem to need sucker pruning and smells divine!

I chose the Josee Reblooming Lilac because I wanted a fragrant, compact plant with an extended bloom period. Also, while St. Louis is currently zone 6B, I expect it will become at least a 7 as the years go by and Josee is hardy up to zone 9.

Small compact form; ability to bloom multiple times throughout the Spring and Summer; and it has a wide zone range.

I live in central Florida but I'm from Indiana originally and I miss lilacs. I saw this variety is tolerant to my zone and thought I'd give it a try.
Tracy W on Jun 1, 2016
The color. My flowers mainly are purples, pinks, with just a few yellows intertwined within. I already have two lilacs that are lilac or soft purple so this pink will be a nice addition to my back yard garden. I just am so excited to see it when it hits maturity to bloom!

we use to have these bushes around my house when I was a kid and I always remember the sent. Plus I need a good dense folage to separate me (visually) from my neighbors. And as I recall as a kid we never saw the neibors on the other side of the lilac bushes :)

Can Josee Reblooming Lilac be grown in a container?
Carol G on Feb 26, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Yes, so far mine does fine in a container, although I don't know if it can stay in a container forever. When I got the plant, it was only about 8 inches tall, and now the tallest spike is about 2.5 feet tall, I think 3 years later. It is in a 7 gallon container and still seems happy. I was thinking I'd put it in a 15 gallon next year and then when it's about 5 feet tall, put it in the ground. I have also been able to divide the original plant into 3 with a sharp knife, and they are all 2-3 feet tall now. I hope this helps.
When to trim Josee? Remove blooms or keep them?
Ginger D on Jun 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Removing the blooms will encourage re-blooming.
Will deer eat this plant?
Lois C on Jun 1, 2016
BEST ANSWER: We have deer walk through our beds all of the time! They have never touched the lilacs! Usually, they make a run for my purple cone flowers!????
Does it bloom more than once a year ?
Chuck on Jun 13, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The first one died in the Winter in Central Michigan, Then second one (these arrive small, you know) made a beginner's attempt to bloom a week or two ago, but not very vigorous. The plant looks healthy, but it is too early to tell if it will get itself together to bloom again. I certainly was attracted to the idea of a lilac that would rebloom, so that's why I purchased a second plant after the first one died. I am on the border of USDA Zone 6 with nearby Zone 5 only a mile away, so check your Zone. Good luck. Sorry I don't have a direct answer for you. Responding from Bay City, Michigan
Do you deadhead the blooms to encourage new blooms?
Doris D on May 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: yes, deadheading will encourage new blooms all summer. The
amount of blooms will be less than the first spring show but will
be enough to have some flowers in the home, if you want.
How mature are these plants?
Grubbie on Mar 7, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Stark Bros products are reliable. They do stand behind their products if something does not live. As for the lilac, they are about 12" tall when sent to you. They will grow. Goodluck, I have bought from Stark Bros for about 40 years.
Are they safe around black walnut trees?
Matthew B on Jun 14, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Mine did not grow near my neighbor's black walnut tree. A beauty bush did and some viburnums, but those tree roots and walnuts are very poisonous and spread widely by the squirrels.
Is this Persian lilac or a common lilac? I'm asking as the former is toxic to house pets and the latter isn't. Thank you!
Tina C on Jan 13, 2021
BEST ANSWER: We appreciate you reaching out to us. This is known as a common lilac (Syringa vulgaris)

If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to reach back out to us. Have a great day!
What's the difference between this lilac and the "Bloomerang"/boomerang lilacs?
Kat B on May 31, 2019
BEST ANSWER: They have the same genetic disposition. Bloomerang??? is a trademarked brand name, but they both have the same blooming habit.

DIANA W on May 9, 2018

My Josee Rebloomers
Thank you for the quick shipping on my order. So far, this season, the five Josee Reblooming Lilac plants appear very healthy, fully leafed out, and the blooms were numerous and sweet, too. Since the flowers have faded, I'm looking forward to the plants' next blooming period!

Thank you for such healthy stock and your professional care.

Beautiful flowers.
Purchased this plant in 2016. It made beautiful, lovely purple flowers while in the pot. It survived the winter well. This spring I decided to plant it in the front yard and I hope it grows well and gives more of its lovely flowers. I must add that when I received my plant it was in great condition.

reblooming lilac
I bought this lilac at the same time that I purchased Bloomerang. I have only had both of them a year. Bloomerang is about ten times larger and has much better foliage. The foliage on Josee had some browning on the edges, also seemed to be attacked by bugs or slugs. But it seems to be turning the corner now. The newer growth is unblighted. It has not flowered yet because it is so young.

Jose Reblooming Lilac
I bought 4 plants last June 2016. They were doing OK, but 2 did not survive the winter. The two who are still here are doing good, one even had flowers for a short time. They are only about one foot tall, so far. I think these two will make it.

Does well in the Mediterranean climate in San Jose, CA
I've had this a year, 6 inches tall when I got it at about 6 and it's now about 18 inches and had two pretty pink flowers. The smell is nice, and they have not been attacked by any pests, so are healthy.

This one didn't make it.
I adore lilacs, and the thought of having one that would bloom here in the Deep South was a thrill. For me, lilacs summon up memories of childhood Springs, and the huge lilac that grew outside my bedroom window. Unfortunately, this one didn't make it here in southern Mississippi no matter how carefully I tended it. I suspect the weird weather we've had in the past year played a big part.

Every other plant I've gotten from Stark has been amazing.
