Why did you choose this?

I’m growing most of my vegetable garden from seeds this year - I have a few potatoes left from last year. Just adding more.

Great flavor

1st time growing in WV so had to rely on descriptions and google recommendations.

How many seed potatoes are in a pound?

As an average, in 1 pound of seed potatoes, you will receive from 5 to 8 tubers.

ruffly how many potatoes can you expect from 5-8 tubers?

If all conditions are ideal, you may harvest about five to 10 potatoes per plant for your gardening efforts. Yields are based on both the care your give your plants during the growing season and the variety of potatoes you choose to grow.

Can these be planted in large grow bags?

Yes. I've successfully grown in specialized 'potato' grow bags, but I would imagine any reasonably-sized cloth grow bag would work. It also makes hilling a bit easier if you're able to fold over the cloth when you first plant and then extend it up as you hill up.

Can I save some of the potatoes that I harvest to use as seed potatoes the next year? Thank you.

Yes as far as I'm aware. In fact, I'm doing exactly that this year myself after planting some of last year's potatoes which we didn't manage to eat (it was a banner crop last year) this spring.

do these potatoes need to be cut prior to planting or planted whole?

Most of the seed potatoes I received were small enough to plant whole. The one or two that were larger can be cut leaving a few eyes on each piece, dried out overnight and planted, if preferred.

How many seed potatoes per pound?

As an average, in 1 pound of seed potatoes, you will receive from 5 to 8 tubers

I live in northeast Pennsylvania. Zone 6B.  Sometimes the temps dip into the upper 30's. Sometimes we can get snow in April. Will this be a problem getting my seed potatoes in the beginning of April? When should I plant them?

We appreciate you reaching out to us. Because weather and soil conditions vary so much from year to year and even within your zone, it's best to think of your planting time as a range of favorable conditions instead of an exact time.

You can plant new plants and trees:
1) when the ground is not frozen.
2) when daytime temperatures are above freezing (32ºF) and below 90ºF.
3) when extreme weather (blizzard, hail, torrential rain, etc.) is not in the forecast. Be sure to keep plants watered if you're transplanting in warm and/or dry weather.

If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to reach back out to us. Have a great day!

How to plant potatoes?

A planting guide will arrive with your seed potatoe order from our growers. Plant seed potato pieces in individual holes or in rows. Space each piece about 10 to 20 inches apart. Regardless of whether you plant in rows or holes, when growing seed potatoes in the ground you're going to want to hill your potato plants two or three times through the growing season with several inches of soil.

On average, what area does 1 lb of seed potatoes produce?

One pound of seed will usually plant 5–8 row feet, depending on the variety

I love Yukon Gold Potatoes!
They are in and growing like crazy. I have "hilled" them, once. They are beautiful and I can't wait to try them. There's just no better new potato than Yukon Gold. It will be a little while but well worth the wait, and judging by how well the plants are growing, it will be a bumper crop. Thank you!

Delicious Yukon Gold Potatoes!
I used large grow bags to make harvesting my potatoes much easier! I had a decent harvest but I failed to use a good growing soil . We have too much clay. A regular watering schedule would have helped too.

Extremely successful
Extremely successful crop. The potatoes required very little intervention. I would love to plant them again (but this time protect them from a rabbit who mowed them down and left the severed leaves on the ground)

Yukon Gold Seed Potato
I have grown potatoes in the past. They are easy to grow. I used "grow bags" above the ground which gives air circulation through out the bag. You start them in 4 inches of soil mixed with peat, potting soil... Then when the greenery starts to grow and gets taller than you add more soil mix. Continue to add the soil mix while the green stems are growing until you reach the top of the bag. Then as the greenery turns yellow then have fun running your hands through the soft soil for those crispy, tasty, potatoes. Watch out for the potato bugs.

Healthy plants, modest yield
I planted 3 seed potato pieces each in 10 gallon grow bags. Every piece produced a healthy stem. My yield at the end of summer was about 4:1, with about half of those being nice large potatoes. Not my best yield, but the potatoes have stored well and been tasty.

Potatoes appeared to be successful until it was time to pull them up. Revived many small potatoes with only a handful of medium size.

Not worth the cost
These arrived with NO eyes on them and 1lb was 5 rather small potatoes. Buy 10lb's from the grocery store as there is nothing special about these Yukon golds that warrant spending 15.99 a lb. Get 5 times as many from a bag at your local store.
