A male and female tree is necessary for pollination
The same variety cannot pollinate itself. You will need another chestnut variety with a similar bloom time in order for good pollination to occur.One species cannot pollinate another.

No, this tree is pollen-sterile, meaning it can't even pollinate another tree. You need at least two seedlings or another chestnut variety to pollinate Colossal.
It might be that your zone was updated to 9A when the USDA revamped their zone map and data. Since 9A is a cooler part of a zone 9, and fairly similar to a zone 8B, then you should still be able to grow this variety successfully there, especially since it originated from your location.
