Questions & Answers
Here in mid Michigan the second week of August is when the squirrels strip the trees of nuts completely within a week. I have made a new planting and it is working out great. Planted away from other trees so the squirrels can't jump from them to my nut trees. I enclosed the filberts with a grounded 5 foot chicken wire fence with an electric fence wire at the top. Problem solved!

Key Pollination Info:
Ennis and Barcelona are both poor pollen producers, and they are not cross-compatible with each other due to overlapping incompatibility alleles.
Hazelnuts (Corylus avellana) are self-incompatible and require a compatible different cultivar for successful pollination.
Even though both produce both male and female flowers, they need a third compatible pollinizer that is not genetically similar.
They are not cloned but they are grafted so the suckers need to be removed.
