Description

About the Persian Walnut Tree

The Persian Walnut, more commonly called the English Walnut (Juglans regia) is a deciduous tree originally found in the mountain region of Central Asia. Walnuts are often planted for shade, lumber, wildlife, and of course for their delicious crop of nuts.

The fruit is green in color, with a semi-fleshy covering and a brown uneven nut. The seed is large, slightly hard and fleshy. The Persian walnut produces valuable and high-quality lumber. It is very hard and beautiful when used for flooring, furniture, and tools. The best time to harvest walnuts is between September and November. Walnuts are nutritious and great for cooking, baking, and snacking.

The best condition of growth for the trees is rich, deep soil with full sunlight. Once established, these trees require little maintenance.

8 Questions
Why did you choose this?

It was the only "English" walnut you had in stock

First is this tree grafted? Also with the shipping restrictions that Missouri has for Walnuts but I already live in Missouri and you guys ship from Missouri so shipping a Walnut to me would be in state is that okay to be shipped in that case? Otherwise I love 4 hours from you guys could I come and pick it up if I ordered a few walnuts and they can't be shipped?

This is a grafted tree and we do ship to your location.

Why did you discontinue the ENGLISH walnut trees??

We are no longer offering this product; we keep the information on the website for the benefit of customers who have purchased it in the past. We usually discontinue a variety because we've discovered another variety that produces better fruit, is more disease resistant, cold-hardy, etc.

How do I use my gift certificate?

By either checking out on line or calling us via phone and placing an order at 800.325.4180

How many years to produce nuts?

The tree will begin to produce nuts in 4 to 6 years but it will generally produce a good crop of fruit after the tree is about 15 to 20 years old.

Is this a grafted tree?

Yes these are grafted variaties.

What can I use for a cross pollinator?

I recommend using the Black walniut seedlings.

Are there still shipping restrictions on walnut to michigan?

Unfortunately this happens to be a product that has state or county agricultural regulations, which prohibit shipment. Sometimes there are local/regional quarantines put in place to halt the spread of certain plant diseases, which does not happen often. While these regulations may change in the near future, we apologize that we cannot ship this item to you at the present time.

Lovely tree
I bought one and planted it out the front of my condo. It's a slow grower. It struggled in year 2 with some kind of leaf mold, but beat it and it hasn't returned. It's growing well and produced a couple of dozen in the 3rd year. They are delicious. It's five years old now and only about 8' tall. Still, I love it.

Bought trees during late fall and received them very late in the spring here in KY. Trees were well packaged. We're planting in a hole that was dug with a backhoe, all removed dirt was tilled up and mixed with potting soil before being place back in hole around the bare root trees. They were watered every two days, yet neither tree ever produced any leaves or buds all spring or into the summer. Trees were dug up and replaced with fruit tree's because of the effort that went into the hole preparation that I hated to waste it. Not asking for replacements because I've had other nut trees not take off before from other companies, you just don't what happens in shipping.
