How much per plant or paper foot of row?
Terry T on Apr 26, 2016
BEST ANSWER: new planting: 1 cup per ten feet of row
2nd year:1/2 cup per 12 feet of row.
3rd year: 3/4 cup per 10 feet of row
How to do fall pruning?
Mike G on Oct 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: All blackberry types, including boysenberries, bear fruit on the previous year's new growth.
Pruning should take place any time after harvest up to late autumn.
To prune, cut away all branches that bore fruit THIS season. Then select the best runners that have grown this year and trim away the rest. You can cut the runners shorter, but they should be separated. For best results use some sort of trellis or wires to support them. This makes the fruit more accessible and tends to promote better blooming.
Can i emulsify in water or is it a slow release formula?
Aj M on Apr 10, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I just spread it out by hand. I didn't say to mix in water. I planted my blackberries a year ago. They are growing crazy right now after this last cold snap. I got 3 Prime Jims.
Can you use this for thornless Boysenberries?
CarolB on Oct 23, 2017
BEST ANSWER: That should be fine. This is sort of a general purpose fertilizer optimized for brambles of all types ....which is the only granular one I???ve ever found
Is it too late in the season to use this if my blackberries already have buds on them?
Gabriele R on May 5, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I think it's fine to do it now. Also add a lot of mulch each year. We have over 100 Kiowa and they make the most amazing large delicious blackberries using the Stark Blackberry Bramble fertilizer. Good Luck and Stay Safe! Dave Brown, 4MileCreek Ranch, Carmine TX
Can this fertilizer be used on raspberries or should Stark???s raspberry food be used instead.? Thank you.
Sandy D on Jan 4, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I haven't compared the effects of the two different fertilizers, but I used the blackberry bramble fertilizer on both blackberries and raspberries planted in containers, and also on planters containing mint, basil, oregano, and thyme (less than on the blackberries and raspberries, since it wasn't intended for those uses). It seemed to promote growth on everything pretty well, certainly did not harm.
Can this be used on raspberries?
Jburns on May 8, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This has a slightly different formula than our Raspberry Food, which is better to use on raspberries. Here is a link to that page, if you're interested: //

Can blackberries be fertiized during the heat of the summer?
Delores M on Jun 12, 2020
BEST ANSWER: We appreciate you reaching out to us. Fertilization should not be done after July 1st as a rule of thumb. It can cause the plant to remain awake and not fall dormant which in the end will kill the plant when winter temps decline. Fertilize early spring through July 1st.

I have a ? about the Blackberry Fertilizer. It says make a circle around the plant but it also says to use a certain amount in ten feet of row. That is a bit confusing for me?
Robbie W on Apr 29, 2020
BEST ANSWER: I have been sprinkling it in a circle around each plant about 6??? from the stalks. I don???t worry about measuring it out, just a handful around each. Seems to be working. All my 3 year old plants are looking very healthy.
when do you start planting blackberries in zone 7?
michael r on Feb 5, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. Because weather and soil conditions vary so much from year to year and even within your zone, it's best to think of your planting time as a range of favorable conditions instead of an exact time.

You can plant new plants and trees: 1) when the ground is not frozen, 2) when daytime temperatures are above freezing (32??F) and below 90??F, and 3) when extreme weather (blizzard, hail, torrential rain, etc.) is not in the forecast. Be sure to keep plants watered if you're transplanting in warm and/or dry weather.
what is the recommended per 1,000 sq/ft rate of Blackberry & Bramble fertilizer?
Eddie on Oct 10, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hi Edward, Here are the instructions for using this fertilizer..

For new plants: Apply fertilizer 3-5 days after planting. Use one cup per ten feet of row. Spread fertilizer evenly within a 12" circle around the plants, but no closer than within 6??? of the plant stems. (If using a split application, apply half the fertilizer at each application.) Fertilizer should be applied each spring when new growth starts and again just after harvest.

Second year: Apply using 1/2 cup per application per ten feet of row. Apply in circular bands and spread evenly around the plant or beside the row, but no closer than within 6??? of the plant stem.

Third year: Increase the fertilizer rate to 3/4 cup per application per ten feet of row.

If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to reach back out to us, remember that we're here for you. Have a great day!
What's in the fertilizer and is it organic?
Tsiporah N on Apr 6, 2019
BEST ANSWER: This fertilizer contains nitrogen, phosphate, potash, calcium, magnesium, boron, copper, iron, manganese, molybdenum and zinc, all derived from natural sources. It is not certified organic.
Ingredients? Trying to stay away from strictly chemical fertilizers; while not strictly organic, look for ingredients more naturally derived.

BEST ANSWER: This is a synthetic fertilizer which contains: nitrogen, phosphate, potash, calcium, magnesium, boron, copper, iron, manganese, molybdenum and zinc, all derived from natural sources.
I???m just starting berry bushes and am wondering how far this bag of fertilizer will go?
Annette S on Feb 20, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The label states to use 1 cup of fertilizer for each 10' of row. 1 cup of fertilizer weighs about 8 oz., so there are about 8 cups of fertilizer per bag, which will treat 80' of row.
when is the best time to fertilize blackberries?
Jo S on Jul 28, 2018
BEST ANSWER: In the spring, just upon dormancy break.
Does this fertilizer adjust the pH balance to make the soil more acidic? I have a slightly alkaline soil.
CoryC on Jul 9, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it does. So you know exactly what you're dealing with, we recommend a soil test. You may need additional soil acidifier if it's too alkaline. Blackberries like the pH between 5.5 and 7.0.

Excellent Fertilizer
Used like stated on package and had excellent results with our Blackberries, just wished Stark Bros would list the directions for use on their website for their fertilizers, so I know a little more about how much I need to order and also easier to read directions online verses looking at a dirty bag.

Im really pleased with this fertilizer. I used it at the beginning of the growing season of 2016 at the recommended rate of 1 cup per 10 ft. row and had all the blackberries I could use.
I also used it after harvest season as recommended and look forward to another successful growing season next year.

Our berry bushes are growing wild!!!! First full year down, and they look healthy and have buds on them. We've fertilized twice and our blackberry bushes have really grown. Hoping for some berries this summer and looking forward to future summers when our crop really kicks in. Highly recommend the quality /healthiness of the plants and the fertilizer has really helped them grow! Thank you so much!
