Description
Blueberry Special Fertilizer – 12-12-12 Formula for Healthy Growth
Give your blueberry bushes the nutrients they need with Blueberry Special Fertilizer, a balanced 12-12-12 fertilizer designed to support strong root development, lush foliage, and high fruit yields.
Why Use Blueberry Special Fertilizer?
- Balanced 12-12-12 NPK ratio for optimal blueberry growth
- Enriched with essential nutrients, including sulfur and magnesium
- Supports healthy root systems and improves fruit production
- Helps maintain the acidic soil conditions blueberries need (pH 4.2 – 5.0)
How to Fertilize Blueberry Plants
- First-Year Plants: Begin fertilizing after leaves reach full size. Apply 1 tablespoon in a 1-foot circle around the plant. Repeat every 6 weeks until midsummer.
- Second-Year Plants: Increase to 2 tablespoons (1 oz.), expanding the circle to 1.5 feet from the plant. Apply when new growth begins in spring.
- Mature, Bearing Plants: Apply 1 cup of fertilizer when new growth appears in early spring.
Caution & Soil Health Tips
- Avoid over-fertilizing, as blueberries are sensitive to excess nutrients.
- Ensure proper irrigation or rainfall between applications.
- Check soil pH regularly—blueberries thrive in acidic soil (pH 4.2 – 5.0).
- Mulching improves soil moisture retention and promotes healthy root growth.

Questions & Answers
A good question, yet difficult to answer! This will help: There are approximately 7.5 cups, or approximately 120 Tablespoons, of this blueberry fertilizer per 4-lb package. According to the label: For new plants, use 1 Tablespoon of fertilizer per plant. For second-year plants, use 2 Tablespoons of fertilizer per plant. For fruit-bearing plants, use 1 cup of fertilizer per plant. Because this is a granular fertilizer and the amount used varies based on the age of the plant, it’s difficult to state exactly how many plants one package will cover. It could be a few mature plants, or many new plants, or somewhere in between.
The package (hard to see in the image, I know) says it's 11% sulfur. Once I got my soil pH where I needed it to be for blueberries (4.5-5.5) using soil acidifier and testing with a soil pH meter, it appeared that the sulfur in the fertilizer helped slow the rate at which my water and rain raised the pH again. Even when using the fertilizer, I still needed to test and amend with garden sulfur as needed (keeping in mind it takes time for the pH to adjust). If your location has more acidic soil, your soil tests may show that the sulfur in the fertilizer is enough to keep your pH where blueberry plants like it to be.
I have blueberry bushes planted in a row and mulched. In late winter i rake away the mulch from the outer edges where roots are growing (not under bush), sprinkle the fertilizer, rake mulch back over. As spring rains saturate the ground, the fertilizer is leached down to roots over time.
YEs it has sulfur in it which helps lower pH.
You should allow 4 or 5 of the new shoots from the bottom of the plant to grow each year and prune out some of the older wood. The best berries are produced on the 2 - 4 year old branches. Seven year or older branches should be removed to "renew" the plant. If you remove a few each year and allow a few of the new shoots to grow, you'll have a good crop each year.
The best time to use this fertilizer (according to the label) is when new growth emerges in the spring. It's not "too late" to use even if you have berries on your plants already, but I wouldn't recommend fertilizing any later than June. If there are no signs of elements breaking down the product within the bag, or causing it to clump, then it may still be viable to use.
This is concidered a 1 year plant, and Those instructions are included on the label or you may download the label directly from our product page.
Blueberries respond well to small amounts of fertilizer applied at three separate applications, the first applied when new growth begins in spring, followed by a second application six weeks later. A third application is made just after harvest. We recommend waiting to fertilize until the spring.
This will last years if kept dry. It breaks down if the contents get wet.
You can use this on the Pink Icing blueberry. It does not make the soil acidic to do this you would need to ammend it with an acidifier.
I fertilize in early spring before the leaves and buds break out. Works well for me and I feel the fertilizer is being used while the plant is actively growing. If you fertilize in the fall there is a good chance most of the nutrients will get washed down into the soil below the root level before they are ever used.
