When your plant matures, it will be approximately 4 - 6' tall x 4 - 6' wide.

Recommended Spacing

We recommend spacing these plants 4 - 6' apart to ensure room for growth.

This variety is self pollinating.

In many cases, you may still want to plant pollinating partners to increase the size of your crops, but with self-pollinating varieties doing so is optional. Plant one of these varieties within 50' for best results.

Bought this to potentially cross pollinate with my sunshine blue. Even though it says it???s self pollinating, wanted to cover my bases and promote more fruit hopefully.

Had a blueberry plant die (Jubilee) and replacing it with a O'Neal. Jubilee can not stand the heat. O'Neal plants thrive.

How tall are the O'Neal blueberry bushes when they come? What is the difference in the 2 containers offered?
Lindsay on Mar 1, 2016
BEST ANSWER: If you buy the small container they are about 4-5 inches tall. You would be better off buying the one gallon size. They are further along and more than a foot tall, and they cost more. My four plants are a year old and about 18 inches tall.
Is the colorful in fall? Red? Yellow? Oranger?
Marilyn D on Oct 2, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Hi Marilyn, This is a great question. The O'Neal blueberry turns a brilliant red before falling in colder climates and is known to remain green in mild winters. If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to reach back out to us, remember that we're here for you. Have a great day!
can I grow this in the big pot instead of to the ground?
Wontonmi on Sep 3, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes. Mixture of pine bark fines, sphagnum peat moss and a little perlite.
I have a chandler blueberry will the oneal blueberry pollinate it?
clairmae on Aug 30, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it will.
What is the actual size of a gallon plant?
Mike R on Jan 28, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. The age and size information for our blueberries is as follows: 3.5??? pot: 6-12 months old and 4??? tall small gallon container: 2 years old and 12??? tall. Our blueberries will typically take 2-3 years after planting to reach maturity and bear fruit.

O'Neal Blueberry Plants
My wife and I own and manage a small organic blueberry operation out of which we retail fresh blueberries in season through a local farmers market. Among the cultivars that we market (Duke, Bluecrop, Bluegold, Jersey, Chandler, O'Neal, and Reveille), our customers consistently ask for O'Neal blueberries because of their superior taste. Consequently during the past two years, we have purchased O'Neal blueberry plants from Stark and have been very pleased with their quality. Our only regret is that these plants are not organically certified.

Hardy Plant, Great for North Texas!!
I've read great reviews on this variety so I bought this one and another to go with it. When they arrived Fed Ex had damaged the plants (I filed a complaint with the company) by throwing them around. Dirt was spilled out in the box and who ever had packed the plants at Stark Bros had literally taped the top of the branches and leaves so they were brown and dead. I took them out, watered and kept them on the kitchen table. As per the instructions I introduced them outside gradually, and trimmed off the damaged leaves. O'neal is doing great, growing new leaves and taking the wind like a champ! I'm in the Dallas area and will be buying more of this variety. Even after the rough start it bounced back and is very happy.

Puny blueberries
I must say that I've had great luck with Stark fruit trees. Not so much with the plants. I bought 6 O'Neal blueberries in gallon pots. Only two of them looked alive upon receiving. The plants were very small and leaves were brown, very disappointed. I'm not sure they'll survive the summer.

Good Flavor - Slow Growing
Just ate my first two blueberries of the season. They had a very good, sweet flavor but the plants, so far, seem to be slow growing compared to my Premier and Misty blueberry plants.

Very sturdy
I planted this blueberry last year and in spite of the harsh winter it survive and it fights back to life. I am excited . first year only so i am not expecting any fruit but thriving well with little maintenance. I usually wait till three years . Just like my other blueberries but the first year is the trial period where i can determine whether it will survive. so far so good.Happy with it.

Great tasting berry
This blueberry tastes so much better than the others I have in my yard. It takes a good two seasons before it starts to really grow, but is well worth it.
