Jaclyn Primocane Red Raspberry Plant
Description
Jaclyn is a cold-hardy, vigorous primocane red raspberry with a practical advantage that sets it apart from most varieties — the fruit is notably less prone to rot and sunscald than the average red raspberry, meaning a cleaner, more consistent harvest with less waste even in warm or wet conditions. Two full crops per season — floricane berries in July, primocane berries September through frost — deliver fresh raspberries from summer all the way to the end of fall. Large, sweet, firm red berries outstanding for fresh eating, freezing, and preserving. Hardy to Zone 3 and self-pollinating.
Less Rot, Less Sunscald — A Cleaner, More Reliable Harvest
Raspberry rot and sunscald are common and frustrating crop losses that reduce the usable harvest from otherwise productive plants. Jaclyn’s natural resistance to both is a practical quality advantage that most raspberry varieties simply don’t offer — particularly valuable in warmer climates, in seasons with late summer heat or humidity, or in any growing situation where fruit quality at harvest is a consistent concern. More of the fruit you grow ends up in the bowl rather than the compost pile.
Two Crops — July and September Through Frost
As a primocane everbearing variety, Jaclyn delivers two distinct harvests per season. Floricane canes produce the primary summer crop in July, and first-year primocanes produce a second wave of fresh berries from September through the first hard frost. That extended seasonal window means fresh homegrown raspberries from summer to autumn from a single planting.
Cold Hardy to Zone 3 — Vigorous and Disease Resistant
Jaclyn’s cold hardiness to Zone 3 extends its reliable range farther north than many comparable primocane varieties, and its resistance to a broad range of pests and diseases reduces management demands and supports consistent, productive canes year after year.
Important Planting Notes
After planting bare-root canes, prune them back to about 2 inches above the ground. This is a critical step that encourages the roots to send up strong new growth — don’t skip it. New growth will emerge from the ground nearby rather than from the original cane, which is normal raspberry behavior as the root system sends up new shoots.
Note: Do not plant red, gold, or purple raspberries within 75–100 feet of black raspberries, as black raspberries can be more susceptible to viral diseases spread by aphids moving between nearby plants.
Why Growers Choose Jaclyn

- Two crops per season — July floricane harvest plus September-through-frost primocane crop
- Large, sweet, firm red berries — outstanding for fresh eating, freezing, and preserving
- Cold hardy to Zone 3 — reliable performance in challenging northern climates
- Vigorous and pest/disease resistant — productive, lower-maintenance canes
- Self-pollinating — productive with just one planting
