Description

One of the most popular, best-tasting strawberries. This excellent variety will give you an abundance of large, jewel-like, dark red berries. It is used extensively by commercial “pick your own” operations because of the fruit’s classic look and taste. The plant is vigorous and produces many runners that increase your crop year after year. Disease-resistant to red stele and verticillium wilt. Cold hardy. Ripens in June. Self-pollinating.

Why did you choose this?

Looking for a good variety of strawberry for our garden.

it is a classic in our climate

Strawberries , use them for so much !!! Salads during the summer , jams , wines and so much more !

It was on sale.

I'm new at gardening but want to dedicate a 4' x 8' bed to strawberries. I'm looking at the EarliGlo variety for my zone (6b). How many plants will I need to fill that space?

Because we recommend 1 foot of space between each plant, if you draw out your 4-foot by 8-foot bed, then you should be able to comfortably fit 21 plants into the space (leaving 1 foot on all sides). They fill in quickly once they get growing! Our bare-root strawberry plants come in packages of 25, so that would fill the garden bed with a few plants to spare.

do any of these strawberry varieties bloom the first year?

I got strawberry’s from Earliglow strawberry plants the first year I planted them.

When is the best time to plant this variety of strawberry?

In the Midwest, zone 5a, we planted ours in early spring. Mid-Late April as long as the soil isn’t too heavy or wet. Growth will start pretty soon especially if you get a good soaking rain soon after planting. Be sure to pinch off the blossoms this year. It’s hard, no berries this first year then but you will be rewarded with a bumper crop in the coming years and healthy strong plants.

we just received 25 bareroot Earliglow plants (April 10) We have them in the fridge because temps at night are getting down to 28. How long will they stay good in the fridge?

I would plant them now. They are dormant and will wake up when they are ready. Your night time temp will not bother them. Storing them in the fridge Is not a good idea for more than a day or two. The dry cold air will start pulling moisture from them. I tried that before I knew better, I only had three out of fifty plants survive after 4 days in the refrigerator.

is this an order of 25 plants or 1 plant?

We appreciate you reaching out to us. Currently we are selling these in a bundle of 25 plants or a single plant in a 4" pot.

If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to reach back out to us. Have a great day!

Will these strawberries do well hydroponically?

Yes, they will. Most all strawberry varieties take very well to hydroponic growing.

Is this EarliGlo strawberry the same as the Earliglow strawberry [(Fairland x Midland) x (Redglow x Surecrop)]? The difference in spelling made me wonder if it is a different berry.

They appear to be the same – I'm not sure why there is a spelling discrepancy in the name!

How many strawberry plants can you plant in a 2x8 elevated planter box?

We recommend spacing these plants 12" apart to ensure room for growth so you might only be able to fit 8 plants.

Will the sure crop Strawberry produce in its first year?

This will not answer your question directly, but maybe it will give you some useful information anyway... I honestly don't remember if they produced crop the first year, but I can say that when they did, they produced a lot. We had berries to eat every day, and I had enough for a few jars of preserves. And they were spreading shoots like crazy, so we ended up with lots of new plants for the next season.

Do this strawberry plant have runners?

Yes, they do!

Couldn't be happier!
I placed my order over the phone and the salesperson was wonderful! I explained to her that we were having a very wet Spring and she said that she could delay shipping until whenever I wanted. I ordered 225 strawberry plants and they were shipped and arrived exactly as expected. The best part was that every single plant grew and thrived! Every single one!! I highly recommend Stark Brothers!

All Earliglow strawberry plants survived !
Even with the dry weather here in PA and planting late (after strawberry season), the new earliglow strawberries did well . I watered them the first day, but since then I did not. The rain was limited over the summer . All plants survived!

Slow Growth, but worth the wait
Took awhile for them to gain strength, but when they did, they produced lots of delicious berries! 25 plants yielded about 15#.
Picked all the blossoms the year they were planted and the following year to help build strength.

got fruit soon after the plants arrived
I got these plants in May and by late June, there were tiny strawberries. The bare root plants were very easy to pot, I used a large grow bag. I am bringing them in during the winter and look forward to next year.
