Size & Spacing

Mature Size

When your tree matures, it will be approximately 12 - 15' tall x 12 - 15' wide.

Recommended Spacing

We recommend spacing these trees 12 - 15' apart to ensure room for growth.

Recommended Pollinators

This variety is self pollinating.

In many cases, you may still want to plant pollinating partners to increase the size of your crops, but with self-pollinating varieties doing so is optional. You'll get fruit with only one plant!

I could only have one tree so a self pollinator was what I needed. We love apples. So that is why I picked the Double Delicious Apple.

We had wanted the two trees, but space is limited in our yard. We had often joked "wouldn't it be great if we could get both on one tree" and here it is. No joke.
Brian B on May 19, 2016
My folks had one. It will remind me of my youth. Plus I like apples fresh off a tree. Now if they could make one squirrel repellant..

What are the minimum chill hours for this tree?
Katie S on Feb 26, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Both the Golden Delicious and Red Delicious varieties on this tree favor a range between 800-1500 chill hours.
we live on very sandy ground, will this tree work out ok on sandy ground?
Kristina B on Oct 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: We live on very sandy ground, too. When planting, I mixed in lots of compost into the soil and hole and keep it properly fertilized. After 2 1/2 years, it's still growing happily.
I live in upstate NY when is a good time to plant this double delicious apple tree? They are going to be a birthday gift for my husband since buying our first home it is something he has always wanted
M V on Sep 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I'm on my second year with this tree and it is growing great. We have heavy clay here in Colorado, so I had to dig a 4x4x2 hole and mix some of the clay with sand and tree and shrub soil. I planted on a slight slope and elevated the root ball in the hole for drainage. I'm hoping it will blossom next year.
Is it possible to prune these two-in-one fruit trees to make them very compact?
Dharma on Feb 8, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, you can prune them to virtually any size less than its mature height/width that you want.
Will this work together in Ct along with my existing Liberty tree I purchased last yr from you? My Liberty made no fruit this yr as I only have the one tree. I do have 3 existing VERY OLD Delicious trees, but still no fruit on my Liberty. Thanks for the advice.
Fred Y on Sep 25, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Liberty takes 2-5 years to bear fruit, so a little patience is necessary. :-) Liberty also blooms too early for either Red or Golden Delicious, and your old Delicious trees will not pollinate these; you will need a different early-blooming variety to pollinate Liberty, like Freedom or Starkspur UltraMac.
Can this tree be used as a pollinator for Honey Crisp?
Barry M on Jul 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. Because the Stark?? Double Delicious tree is part Golden Delicious, it will serve as the perfect pollinator for Honeycrisp???.

Double Delicious Apple Tree (Annie)
My little Annie has only been in the ground for a little over a year. She weathered the winter perfectly and is in full spring growth mode at the moment. I was completely satisfied and happy with the shipment when the tree arrived and had her spot in the yard all picked out. So far the tree is thriving and I can't wait for the next several years to pass so we can enjoy the gorgeous fruit we are anticipating. Stark does an amazing job with packaging the trees for shipment and the instructions included are a great help. I've also enjoyed the online help and instruction available for this tree and other nursery items.

I also ordered a Double Delicious Apple for my boss who lives closer to Houston, TX. Her mother passed away last year so I sent her this tree to plant as a memorial to her mom. She loves and pampers her tree and is so proud it is growing so nicely.

Thank you Stark for making growing things enjoyable and sharing your knowledge.

fantastic tree
I planted this tree 1 year ago, knowing I wouldn't get apples for 2-5. it was a beautiful bare root tree in great shape. it took to it's new home beautifully last year and had no problems.

this year, I was excited to see flowers, and surprised to find fruit already on the free. I removed 51 fruit (yes I counted), leaving about 20 fruit on the free. I removed that much fruit because the tree is still so young and I was afraid the weight of that much fruit would break the young branches. this tree has out performed my expectations, and I've been telling everyone I know how pleased I am with stark bros.

Two for One!!
I love the idea of two great apples from one tree. Once, individuals had to do this themselves. Now it's done for you!! Thank You Stark Bros.'s!

My tree arrived healthy and I loved on it all last year. This spring it is happy and leafy. I go occasionally talk to it and muss its leaves! I was planning some elaborate espalier stuff and life just kinda doesnt go that way, but I was confident in my tree purchase because it was a Stark. As a kid when we drove by the Stark orchards I was mesmerized. The rows of beautiful trees and the big white barn with a huge bear saying "Stark trees bear fruit" was a promise that stuck in my head. I am glad to have bought my apple and peach trees and am sure they will deliver the fruit, whether I am able to work in the espalier or not! The reputation you have protected is important to me.

incredible tree
I planted a 2-foot tree last May. A year later, we got a few apples although the tree is very young. At least six tiny fruits that are growing. I expected the tree to bear fruit on the 3rd year. Nice surprise!

Stark Double Delicious Apple
This tree has been growing for 2 seasons now, it has not produced any fruit yet. I am hoping to get some apples in a season or two from it.

At first a little worried!
When we first planted the little sapling, I wasn't to sure how it was going to do! It grew leaves but nothing more then a couple of inches of growth. But this year! Wow! Growing nicely, full crown of leaves and it's only the end of May! Hope it just gets bigger and stays nice and healthy!

It's still alive!
I wasn't to sure it was going to survive, but it did. Now just waiting to see if it produces an fruit. If it does, I'll change my star rating.
