About the Loring Peach Tree

Introducing the Loring Peach Tree – a delightful addition to any orchard with a rich heritage dating back to its origin in 1946 at the State Fruit Experiment Station in Mountain Grove, MO. A hybrid of ‘Frank’ x ‘Halehaven’, this self-pollinating peach tree showcases beautiful pink blooms in spring, and with approximately 22 days before Redhaven, it ensures a bountiful harvest of medium-to-large peaches by mid-August.

Large, round, with yellow flesh, the fruit is renowned for its delectable sweetness, and is excellent for processing, fresh eating, canning, and preserves. Notably, Loring peaches are freestone, allowing for easy pit removal for your culinary creations.

How to Grow the Loring Peach Tree

Ideal for USDA Hardiness Zones 5-9, the Loring Peach Tree thrives in well-drained soil, requiring approximately 800 chill hours to yield its best results. Prune during the dormant season to maintain an open canopy, facilitating air circulation and sunlight penetration for healthier, more productive peach production.

The Loring Peach Tree is relatively resistant to pests and diseases; however, implementing regular monitoring and preventive measures, such as proper sanitation and organic pest control methods, will contribute to a thriving, pest-free orchard.

Its resilient nature makes it a fantastic addition to home orchards, providing both novice and seasoned gardeners with an abundance of juicy, freestone peaches each summer.

Why did you choose this?

This has been my favorite peach for YEARS! It has excellent flavor.

I had to replace a new tree that was doing great and then it just died, unknown cause. Mike

The last one I ordered and planted three(3) days ago just put out a half dozen blooms. I also bought 2 pear trees that have also done well and a cherry tree with so many sprouts that I cannot count…

I had one at my old address & loved it! Delicious fruit & heavy producer.

The description says “blooms early to avoid late frost damage”. Can you explain that? Does it bloom earlier than most? Wouldn’t that make frost damage worse?

My Loring peach blooms the latest of the four varieties I have and rarely has the blooms killed by a late March freeze here in Central Texas. That description is not accurate for me.

If this peach ripens mid-August in Zone 5, when would it ripen in Zone 8a?

In Central Texas, zone 8a, this tree ripens in July every year for me. Usually starting around the 4th of July then lasting 2-3 weeks.

chill hours for Loring Peach?

This variety needs at least 750 chill hours.

Is this Loring Peach  sweet?

The flesh is firm and juicy and is very sweet. My parents live in the Sandhills of North Carolina and there are big peach orchards there that grow a large variety of peachs. I have tried them all and the Loring by far is my favorite.

I live in zone 7, I planted a Loring peach tree two years ago this spring I pulled all the small peaches except 4 and they ripen first week of June. Is that normal?

Seems early, even for Zone 7. I’m in Zone 6 and the Loring ripens late August.

Is it freestone?

YES. magnificent tree. Already producing. Love it!

Is this Peach Tree fruit free stone fruit?

This information is listed in the description as Freestone on the product page.

When is the estimated picking time on loring peaches?

Depends on your zone location. In Ohio, they are ready by August or after (I pick when completely ripe) hope this helps.

Massive, juicy and flavorful peaches
I purchased a bunch of different varieties in 2022 and now is 2025 so my trees are big and mature enough to produce quality fruit. I am amazed of how big the peaches are! The flavor is outstanding as well. They are juicy and very fragrant, skin comes off easily, they are clingstone. The tree seems to be less susceptible to brown rot but I'd still recommend preventative spraying. I'm in zone 8a and it is now beginning of July and they are now ripening. I strongly recommend this variety for your home orchard, your family will enjoy a bountiful harvest.

Love these free stone peaches. Trees do need to be sprayed against bug infestation, but worth the effort. Got my first 7 peaches ( culled to one fruit per tiny branch) on the 3rd year.

Fast Growth/ Deer Love It
This tree came with a sturdy straight trunk and has shown very fast growth. The only downside is that the deer think it's tasty and have mowed it down any time it has grown over my protective cage. On the other hand, the deer have not touched my Reliance tree about 20 feet away. I am not sure what the difference is, but if you live in a heavily deer trafficked area this may be important.

I pretty much said what was true about the tree
I received the tree and planted as was told by Gutneys and it immediately took root and is growing well. The tree should bear some fruit next year but I will wait and see.

Healthy and Growing
My vines came well packaged. They have grown about 18" since planting and look healthy. One plant even has "Barbie-sized" grapes.

LOOKS VERY GOOD!
A very good size tree received. I planted it in a large pot and since we've had some major frost, its under the cover of the patio. It is settling in very nicely. I look forward to eating some delicious fruit from this tree next Summer!
