Red pears look cool

I picked a full sized tree for a front yard canopy layer. Full size works best in my windy area. Red Clapps tastes fantastic, I'm looking forward to growing this.

Have Bartlett tree and love flavor of red pear.

Never heard of one before so - had to try it in my orchard!

I have a customer that wants to plant a dwarf Clapps. She has a Bartlett already on the grounds. I understand it will cross pollinate, but should she also plant a Moonglow or Buerre Bosc that you suggest are the best varieties to utilize with Clapps? In other words, do you see a significant drop off in the fruit production of the Clapps with not having the Moonglow or Bosc to cross pollinate with as you suggest or is the Bartlett she currently has sufficient?
I see this pear is also called the Kalle pear but is it the  same as the Red D'Anjou pear to?

No. The scientific name (variety in '') of the Red Pear/Kalle Pear is Pyrus communis 'Red Clapp's Favorite' and Red D'Anjou is the same except for 'Red Anjou'. They are both pears but they are different varieties. Sine they are both red pears the differences between them isn't going to be enough to notice.

Is this pear a hybrid ??

Yes, Red Clapp’s Pear is essentially a sport (natural mutation) of the classic Clapp’s Favorite Pear, rather than a hybrid from a deliberate cross. It’s not a hybrid in the modern sense of crossing two distinct species or varieties—it’s a genetic variation of an existing variety.

Is this the same as Starkrimson pear?

Hi Declan, This is a very good question. They are from the same parentage but not the same variety. The Starkrimson variety was discovered by what is known as a "bud mutation" from a Red Clapps pear tree in an orchard in MI years ago.

Is a Bartlett pear tree a suitable pollinator for this (Red Clapp's) pear?

We appreciate you reaching out to us. They should cross pollinate with each other.

Red Clapps Pear Tree is Resistant!
This was first time purchasing this type of pear tree and as usual with Stark Brothers products, they have done well. This tree is only in the ground since April and it has weathered a very hot dry summer and so far looks fantastic. I look forward to seeing some fruit next year.

Red Clapps pear tree!
It has not produced fruit yet, but it has become an excellent pollinator for our 2 other pear trees! The other 2 pear trees had never produced fruit for 3 previous years. With the Red Clapps pear they immediately produced lots of pears!

Good
I ordered 3 different Pear Trees for planting in our yard.
2 of them have sprouted new leaves and branches.
However one tree has stayed the same. No new leaves, no new branches.
I do not know if the season is still okay for fresh tree or replacement.

Tree arrived unhealthy
Unfortunately tree arrived in poor shape. This is the only tree from Stark's that I have lost. Planted another tree in the exact same spot and it is doing well.
