Fuyu Asian Persimmon Tree
Description
Also called Fuyugaki persimmon
The most widely grown persimmon tree. Bears young and yields large crops. The name translates to “winter persimmon”. Slightly drooping branches provide an elegant look in the landscape. Deep-orange fruit is medium-sized and oblate in shape, with a consistently sweet taste. Stays firm even when ripe. Keeps well for several weeks. Non-astringent. Seedless. Heat-tolerant. Ripens in September. Grafted. Self-pollinating.
Note: Our persimmon trees are grown in EZ Start® pots, which allow the roots to self-air prune and redirect energy to producing a dense mass of feeder roots. The main tap root will begin forming once planted in its permanent location, and will fully develop over the next 2-3 years.

Questions & Answers
The Ichi-Ki-Kei-Jiro Asian Persimmon tree bears a non-astringent fruit similar to a Fuyu and it is a dwarf-size tree.
I live in zone 6b and I have a tree in front yard, It has passed 2 winter without any problem
Ichi is soft when ripe and the fuyu is crunchy. Ichi is almost too sweet you will not eat many at one time. The fuyu is also sweet but a little less. Ichi will ripen to a deep red like a tomato and fuyu will ripen to a deep orange. Ichi will ripen one month earlier than Fuyu. Both have a natural wax that will let you shine them before giving as gifts to friends. You should buy both
Fuyu persimmons are self pollinating, no other tree is needed, mine started bearing fruit when the tree was 3 years old, if your tree is younger than that give it some more time. Incidentally some oriental persimmons do not flower every year I have another variety, that is the soft kind when they are ripe and it has skipped a year on occasion, don't know why, but the following year it was loaded to the point of breaking branches, this was the pear shaped variety. Environmental conditions also affect fruit set, and the tree will naturally shed green fruit if it feels it can't support all the fruit.
both of mine are 12-14 feet and growing
I’m asking this because I already bought 2 from a different nursery (bought directly Walmart but shipped from a nursery in Florida) the tree grew beautifully all spring and summer even had fruit in but did not survive the winter of 2022. Then I started to see some foliage from the roots in spring 2023 but it from the rootstock used in the graft removed completely but still see some buds appear where the trees were removed.
I love persimmons and I want a tree really bad, I had 2 other trees bought from a local Asian store prior to the ones from Walmart and those grew up and were good bearers but sadly had to relocate them due to a utilities work but they did not survive :(
They are most definitely NOT deer resistant. They are loved by humans, deer, coyote, dogs ….
Well draining soils.
Thank you for your question. Because weather and soil conditions vary so much from year to year and even within your zone, it's best to think of your planting time as a range of favorable conditions instead of an exact time.
You can plant new plants and trees: 1) when the ground is not frozen, 2) when daytime temperatures are above freezing (32ºF) and below 90ºF, and 3) when extreme weather (blizzard, hail, torrential rain, etc.) is not in the forecast. Be sure to keep plants watered if you're transplanting in warm and/or dry weather.

If you scroll down to see the maturity size you will notice it is listed as Maturity it will be approximately 15 - 20' tall x 15 - 20' wide. This is because this not a dwarf tree and is not ever offered in a dwarf. The only variety that is offered in a dwarf is the Ichi-Ki-Kei-Jiro Asian Persimmon Tree as its natural growth habit is of a dwarf. It is out of stock and we do not have an ETA on when more will become available but if you sign up for the product notification you will be notified when it does.
