Questions & Answers
Grafting allows you to replicate the same exact tree that Dr Meader created. They take cutting during dormant season and either graft a bud or a small section of a branch called a scion. You don’t get an exact match if you plant seeds from a given tree. They are pollinated by other trees so the offspring will not be the exact duplicate. Taste, hardiness, growth could all be different.
Unripe they are totally inedible and will make your mouth pucker. Ripe ones are very soft (“like a baby’s cheek”) and gelatinous with a super sweet taste like bubblegum.
Yes, the Meador American Persimmon will benefit from pollination by wild persimmons, as both are of the same species, Diospyros virginiana. Cross-pollination can enhance fruit production, particularly if the Meador variety is not self-fertile.
As for flowering, both the Meador and wild persimmons generally bloom around the same time in late spring. While slight variations in climate can affect the exact timing, they usually overlap enough for effective pollination. Observing your specific trees during the blooming season can confirm whether their flowering periods align.
A merit of this tall rectangular pot is the severed taproot, which forces feeder roots to grow within the pot. These feeder roots then grow to the bottom of the pot, and are naturally air-pruned. This process encourages the development of a strong mass of roots within the pot to support the tree during its growth and transplantation.

We are no longer offering this product; we keep the information on the website for the benefit of customers who have purchased it in the past. We usually discontinue a variety because we've discovered another variety that produces better fruit, is more disease resistant, cold-hardy, etc.
