10 Questions
Why did you choose this?

I have a grown Meador that’s struggling to produce. Thought it might need a friend.

Doesn't need another tree to pollinate it.

Hardy and self pollination. My husband wants to try to grow a persimmon tree

always wanted to grow them

What is the reason for grafting?

Grafting allows you to replicate the same exact tree that Dr Meader created. They take cutting during dormant season and either graft a bud or a small section of a branch called a scion. You don’t get an exact match if you plant seeds from a given tree. They are pollinated by other trees so the offspring will not be the exact duplicate. Taste, hardiness, growth could all be different.

Are they astringent or non-astringent?

Unripe they are totally inedible and will make your mouth pucker. Ripe ones are very soft (“like a baby’s cheek”) and gelatinous with a super sweet taste like bubblegum.

will the Meador American Persimmon benefit from wild persimmon pollination? Do they flower at the same time?

Yes, the Meador American Persimmon will benefit from pollination by wild persimmons, as both are of the same species, Diospyros virginiana. Cross-pollination can enhance fruit production, particularly if the Meador variety is not self-fertile.

As for flowering, both the Meador and wild persimmons generally bloom around the same time in late spring. While slight variations in climate can affect the exact timing, they usually overlap enough for effective pollination. Observing your specific trees during the blooming season can confirm whether their flowering periods align.

What is EZ Start?

A merit of this tall rectangular pot is the severed taproot, which forces feeder roots to grow within the pot. These feeder roots then grow to the bottom of the pot, and are naturally air-pruned. This process encourages the development of a strong mass of roots within the pot to support the tree during its growth and transplantation.

I have been looking to copy my sister's remarkable results with what she describes as a "DWARF American Persimmon Tree", purchased 6 -8 years ago from Stark.  Neither she nor I can find the "Dwarf" variety.  Are we overlooking something?

The only dwarf persimmon available on the market is the https://www.starkbros.com/products/fruit-trees/persimmon-trees/ichi-ki-kei-jiro-asian-persimmon maturing 8-10 feet

How long will it take for this persimmtree to bear fruit?

We appreciate you reaching out to us. You can find the years-to-bear information in the Characteristics section, near the top of the page, underneath the description. This tree takes 3-4 years to bear.

If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to reach back out to us. Have a great day!

What is the size of this tree when fully grown?

Im Not sure as it is out of stock and so it would depend wha tis available at the time in size options.

Why should I pay postage for a replacement that does not seem to be right ?

Replacements are free however if you took a stock credit, that is no longer a free replacement that is a credit given for the purchase amount of the item that died. Those credits are there to put towards a future purchase and those purches could have a shipping fee depending on the promo at that time.

Will you be getting more of these in? I am looking for the meader persimmon

We are no longer offering this product; we keep the information on the website for the benefit of customers who have purchased it in the past. We usually discontinue a variety because we've discovered another variety that produces better fruit, is more disease resistant, cold-hardy, etc.

Healthy Persimmon Trees!
I ordered the persimmon trees after the weather got hot. They arrived quickly and in great shape. They transplanted well and thrived. They are now starting to go dormant for the winter. I will be ordering more! Thank you!
