Questions & Answers
No. I have this exact rose and it does have thorns. Typically, if it doesn't say thornless, assume it will have thorns.
Thorns do not deter deer. I have many different varieties of roses with thorns, and the deer eat the leaves, flower buds, and green stems with thorns like candy. What they don't eat, they will often destroy with their horns. I have to keep wire fencing around all of my roses, and trees with trunks under 4". I have never seen a rose that is "deer resistant" in my 70 years. Anywhere you find deer, wire fencing around plants or electrified fencing is the only deterrent that works. Chemical deterrents have always just been a waste for me. Deer are very destructive - especially where populations are too large and/or unafraid of human contact. This problem is becoming worse in all areas where anyone puts feed out for them - drawing them out of the forests and even into heavily populated housing developments. Not a week back, here in central Alabama town, a deer almost ran into the front of my vehicle while I was still in my driveway. This never happened here 20-30 years ago. Feeding deer should be outlawed.
Hi Carl. Of course it depends where you live (general climate) and where you
intend to plant it (microenvironment). I planted it along a fence in Philadelphia.
It took a while to get started, but was doing quite well by the end of summer. I would not call it a fast grower in comparison with rugosa type roses, but I would say it established well in the first year and looks quite happy where it is. I kept it watered well after transplanting because we had a dry spell, so I think early care is important. Good luck.

Yes it does, a beautiful light fragrance that doesn't overpower.
You do not need to prune them all the way down to the ground but we would recommend mulching the ground around it to help with the freezing temperatures.
Yes! This is a beautiful rose bush that can climb. I started getting first flowers the same year I planted them. Every year it gets bigger and I am currently hoping it'll make a full arch in my garden. Very hardy, strong plant. Beautiful big flowers and they also smell very nice. Highly recommend! I am very happy!
These roses are awesome, I planted mine on an arbor that is over 12 ft high, in the first year they had grown almost to the top, the next year they covered it, would recommend these roses to anyone, they are beautiful, grow fast & bloom all summer/
I measured a fully open bloom today at 3 inches and a bud at a little over 1 inch.
Yes, a light, pleasant fragrance.
I generally prune mine early spring only if needed and again after second bloom. Have done very little pruning in this. I love this climber. Needs protection from rabbits also
