More sweet, less acidic. Tomatoes weigh up to 2 lbs. each! One slice will cover a sandwich; excellent in salsas. Beefsteak-type fruit is deep golden yellow, and is beautiful in a bowl with other heirlooms. Fruit is abundant on very tall vines, and is deer-resistant. Barnes Mountain Yellow has fewer seeds than most tomatoes, is thin-skinned and easy to peel. Rich, old-time flavor from a great Kentucky heritage. Indeterminate. Too beefy for my taste
If you love beefsteak tomatoes and want heirloom, this is probably the variety for you. Yellow-to-orange flesh, eats like steak and tastes like it too. Indeterminate, so they grow upwards of 8' tall. They need major support or major pruning. The fruits get as large as the description says, 1-2 lb. Due to pruning getting away from me several times and rows too close together, I had to remove whole branches and did lose some fruit. I think we picked 4-5 of these from a 3' row. I just wasn't ready for how fast and large the plants grow. I might have just one plant next year to grow for sharing.
