SnappyMac® Apple Tree
Description
About the SnappyMac® Apple Tree
Enjoy all the classic McIntosh qualities with added benefits in the SnappyMac® apple tree — our exclusive, cold-hardy variety developed in Crown Point, New York in 2007. This improved McIntosh selection produces large, deep red apples with a spicy-sweet flavor that’s perfect for fresh eating and baking. Its open growth habit allows for better air circulation and sunlight, promoting healthier fruit and easier maintenance.
The SnappyMac® is a spur-bearing tree, meaning it produces fruit on compact, fruiting spurs along its branches, which leads to a more concentrated and manageable harvest. Apples ripen in early September and can keep in cold storage until January, offering fresh-from-the-tree flavor well into winter.
How to Grow the SnappyMac® Apple Tree
This variety thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, performing best in USDA Zones 4–8. A pollination partner is required for fruit set—see recommended varieties below. Regular pruning helps maintain structure and encourages new fruiting spurs.
Reliable, flavorful, and beautifully blushed, the SnappyMac® Apple Tree brings you McIntosh tradition with modern ease. A great choice for gardeners seeking a hardy, productive, and long-storing apple.

Questions & Answers
Hello, both of these variaties should work for pollination as they both have an early bloom time.
Northern Spy is one of the latest-blooming apple trees while McIntosh like SnappyMac tends to be early blooming. These two varieties alone may not have overlapping bloom times, so you may want a third tree in the mix, like Golden Delicious, or opt for a pair of trees that are more likely to cross-pollinate reliably.
This is at lest the 2nd year for the tree. My golden delicous is my pollinator and appears to have a bad case of cedar apple rust despite spraying with copper. The snappy mac only has a spot or two without being sprayed, as do the traditional macs. I plan to spray preventively just in case. All 4 trees were bought from Stark Bros the same year and are otherwise healthy. I hope this answers your question.
Granny Smith can pollinate a Snappy Mac apple tree, as long as their bloom times overlap.
Here's a breakdown:
Snappy Mac is an early to mid-season bloomer (it's a McIntosh-type apple).
Granny Smith is a late-season bloomer.
So, will they work together?
Possibly, but only if their bloom periods overlap enough. This overlap can vary by climate and growing conditions. In some areas, Granny Smith may start blooming late enough to miss most of Snappy Mac’s flowering, making it a weak or unreliable pollinator for Snappy Mac.
A golden delicious, Cortland Gold Russett or any other Early - Mid season Variety that you like.
The SnappyMac™ apple typically requires around 800–1,000 chill hours to break dormancy and bud out properly.
I don’t know I didn’t plant lodi but if a tree needs a pollinator I always plant a variety that complements it
More than likley both variaties will work for pollination as there is an overlap in time .. but the bloom times are not exact as the Snappy has an Early- Mid season while the Honeycrisp has a mid-late and the Crismsoncrisp has a Mid season bloom.
Possibly as there is a small overlapping mid season bloom but it would be best to go with a Golden delicious, Honeycrisp or Enterprise apple for proper pollination
All of our fruit trees are young and will not begin bearing for 2-7 years. Figs and citrus would be the quickest as they bear within 1-2 years after planting. The Years to bear information can be found in the product characteristics section, keep in mind the years to bear is after the tree has been planted in to the ground.
LIked the name, Snappy Mac.
Like mac's and needed pollinator
Always wanted apple tree
i live in Wyoming, therefore, I need a try that blooms in Mid season and harvest before October. Also, I like the idea of open structure for disease resistance.
