Do I need to take this tree indoors in the winter?

I live mid Wisconsin and this year survived a couple of weeks that would have been considered zone 3. So will survive comfortly in zone 4. Definitely no need to been taken inside.

How long does it take to grow to 10’ tall?

Mine did after it's first year of getting established. It really took off in it's 2nd full season.

fantasa nectarines safe for the dogs?

The fruit is no problem. Everything from a Mama hen with her chicks, to goats to people on our farm eat the nectarines and peaches right off of the tree, I have Great Pyrenees and Rhodesian Ridgebacks and I wouldn't let them eat the pits, There is a toxin in the internal seed that could cause illness or death, if the dog cracked the pit and ate the almond like seed inside. In short cut off the fruit that you would eat and let the dog try it. If you wouldn't eat it, I wouldn't allow my dog to eat it. Best thing is to call your veterinarian and/or poison control and check it out before the dog consumes the fruit. This is any food not in the animals normal diet.

Can I plant in late May? We are 7a zone with hot summers

We appreciate you reaching out to us. Because weather and soil conditions vary so much from year to year and even within your zone, it's best to think of your planting time as a range of favorable conditions instead of an exact time.

You can plant new plants and trees:
1) when the ground is not frozen.
2) when daytime temperatures are above freezing (32ºF) and below 90ºF.
3) when extreme weather (blizzard, hail, torrential rain, etc.) is not in the forecast. Be sure to keep plants watered if you're transplanting in warm and/or dry weather.

If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to reach back out to us. Have a great day!

How big is the tree when shipped?

That will depend upon which option you choose. Please see the "Choose an option" dropdown menu near the top of the page, which will show you the various sizes/options that are available.

Can you grow these in containers?

You can grow almost anything in a container! This excellent article will answer your questions and provide good advice. Please see "Growing Fruit Trees in Containers" //www.starkbros.com/growing-guide/article/fruit-trees-in-containers-pt1

Can a self pollinator pollinate another tree?

Yes, absolutely! A self-pollinating tree can often pollinate another tree of the same species, as long as they’re compatible and bloom at the same time.

Miracle tree!
When this beautiful tree arrived, it had one blossom on it. It was the only fruit tree out of several that the blossom stayed on through several hard frost and produced a nectarine! Unfortunately, a caterpillar could not resist and had to taste the nectarine before it ripened, but it is still growing strong!

The Wonderful Fantasia Nectarine
This Nectarine is only 2 years old and has a dozen or more of fruit on it. It is absolutely delicious and it is a freestone, meaning that the fruit flesh doesn't adhere to the pit.

Fared Well
Nice sized sapling. Planted at the very end of the planting window in spring of 2024. Planted in a yard on a south slope in zone 7b. Used a mycorrhizal root dip. Sapling endured a couple months of significant deer browse before being caged. Sapling has recovered well. I hope to be as pleased in future years once it starts to bear fruit.

It wants to GROW
It took off and seems very happy. It budded out, seems to be a favorite with the lady bugs and the smaller bumblebees.

Great tree
Purchased this last Spring on sale. Not only has it doubled in size, but it's the only tree in my small orchard to survive Summer/Winter temps (Zone 8b). It's thriving and covered in blossoms now. I'm considering picking up a few more.

Fantasia Nectarine got a slow start, but now is growing well.
I bought a tree of the Fantasia Nectarine and planted it when it arrived in April. At first I was worried when it did not leaf out as quickly as the apricot and peach trees that I planted at the same time. I wrote to Stark Bros and was told to let it have more time. It did leaf out and grow very well and now is looking very healthy and happy. We have watered it every 7-10 days during this warm summer. I have great hopes for fruit next year.
