Will Seckel and Comice be good pollinators for one another?

Comice Pear

BEST ANSWER: My pear trees will be one year old this spring (2020) so they are too young to produce fruit. I live in Nashville where fire blight is a problem for the family of fruit trees that pear trees belong to and pollination is not my concern but which varieties from those that I purchased survive fire blight. Moreover, since I purchased several other varieties besides these two, even after they produce fruit, I would not be able to tell which varieties cross-pollinate each other and which do not.

When do I pick my Comice pears?
BEST ANSWER: About Sept 28 in my part of Wisconsin. Pick them when mature but not ripe, then store in the refrigerator for 30 days, remove to a 70 degree room until they are ripe. This avoids wasp, lady bug, crow, etc damage and also provides great tasting pears - the very best pears!

Previous note by Sunny M on June 8, 2019 says these pears must be picked and stored correctly for weeks before they are ready to eat. What does this mean?
BEST ANSWER: No European pears ripen on the tree; you must pick them prior to ripening and let them mature off the tree. Here is an article in our Growing Guide about harvesting pears: https://www.starkbros.com/growing-guide/article/pears-ready-to-harvest
