Description

Sweetheart Blueberry produces up to 15 pounds of fruit per plant — and in mild climates, it does it twice. A vigorous Northern-Southern cross developed in 1999 and introduced in 2010, Sweetheart delivers one of the earliest blueberry harvests of the season with a heavy first crop of large, sweet, firm berries in late May to early June, followed by a lighter second crop in August in favorable areas. Self-pollinating and cold hardy in Zones 4–8, it’s one of the most productive and rewarding blueberry varieties available for home gardeners.

Two Crops, Outstanding Yields

Sweetheart’s dual-season production is its most remarkable quality. The first and heaviest crop arrives in late May to early June — among the earliest ripening dates of any blueberry variety — putting fresh homegrown blueberries on your table before the season has properly started. In mild climates, the same plants produce a second lighter crop in August, extending the harvest window into late summer. The vigorous plants are capable of yielding up to 15 pounds of fruit each, making Sweetheart one of the highest-producing blueberry varieties you can grow.

Large, Sweet, Firm Berries From a Vigorous Plant

The fruit quality matches the impressive production numbers. Sweetheart produces large, firm blueberries with a sweet, clean flavor and smooth texture that’s excellent for fresh eating, baking, freezing, and preserving. The vigorous plants establish quickly, produce within 2–3 years, and grow with the kind of energy that signals a long-lived, reliable producer.
