A splendidly sweet Mac-type treat! Tree has a spreading growth habit, with semi-spur bud formation. Pioneer blooms early, with attractive pink-purple flowers that give way to forest-green, glossy leaves that refresh the air all summer. Large, slightly flattened globular fruit has very smooth, unrusseted skin with a glassy shine. The background color of mature fruit is green, with an 80% blush of very deep garnet-red. The crisp, firm, fine-textured flesh is white with a bright green tint, and contains more sugar in its juice than a standard McIntosh. Resistant to late-season fruit drop. Ripens in late August/early September, extending the McIntosh season. Discovered as a chance seedling in 1976 near Marlboro, NY. Best pollinators: Cortland, any Gala or Granny Smith.
