is Montmorency ok pollinator for Windsor sweet? if not, what sweet cherry is best to match an already established Montmorency?
billy s on Apr 21, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Montmorency is a tart pie cherry that is self fertile. Windsor needs sweet cherries like Bing, Lapin, Black Tartarian (there are others but you should check).

The Montmorency's production can be increased by planting a North Star tart pie cherry (and there are other tart pie cherry tree types too).

Ordered for July, maybe August Cherries in Zone 6b
I ordered this variety of Windsor Sweet Cherry for July and maybe even a few August cherries. It's a sweet red cherry. I ordered the bare root and go the tree with severely pruned roots and branches where all pruned back to the trunk. It was about 5' tall with adult man's index finger thick trunk.

It was leafing out but since it was in the dark the leaves were yellow. I'm happy with the tree health, size, and cost but I do wonder how long it'll take to get cherries off of it. I took care to give it good soil in it's bed for quick and strong root growth.

The location is a bit shady but I wanted that to stunt size, amount of fruit, and delay ripeness as I've three other cherry trees in the front yard. As a tree it can get 25' x 25' so it'll be interesting to see what the location I chose does. It's far from deep shade but it's probably right at that 6 hour a day full or lightly dappled sunlight requirement. Seeing which branches grow fastest and which direction they grow will take a while. I'm glad it's in the back yard. I ordered it on a Monday and got it that Saturday.

I will update the review if this system allows when I get cherries from the tree.
