Pear Trees Buyer's Guide
Shop pear trees for sale and enjoy sweet, homegrown fruit right from your backyard. Pear trees are easy to grow and produce flavorful fruit that makes a perfect fresh snack or addition to many recipes.
Planting your own pear tree provides a convenient and affordable source of nutritious fruit season after season. If you’re new to growing fruit trees, pear trees are an excellent place to start. The pear trees we offer fall into two main categories:
- European Pear Trees produce fruit that is smooth and firm, with sweet, juicy flesh and the traditional pear shape, often called “pyriform.” These pears originated in the mild regions of Europe, including France, where many classic pear varieties were developed.
- Asian Pear Trees produce unique fruits with crisp texture and juicy white flesh. These pears are round like apples and are often enjoyed fresh for their refreshing crunch.
Both types of pear trees feature delicate spring blossoms and vibrant fall foliage, adding beauty to your landscape as well as delicious fruit. Choose from classic varieties like Bartlett and Bosc, or select Red-Skinned Variations for added color from garden to table.
To ensure success when growing pear trees at home, there are a few important things to consider before you buy a pear tree.
Zone Compatibility
Your climate plays an important role in whether a pear tree will produce fruit or even survive. Before ordering a tree, make sure its recommended hardiness zone range includes your area.
Proper Pollination
Pollination by a different pear variety is key to the success of most pear trees. Often, its absence is why trees produce poorly or don’t bear fruit. Be sure to check the description of your tree to see which pollinators our experts recommend.
We do grow some Self-Pollinating Pear Trees, but we still recommend planting another pear variety in your yard for optimum fruit production.
To help you choose the right pairing, explore our Fruit Tree Bloom Time & Pollination Charts to find compatible pear tree varieties that bloom at the same time for reliable cross-pollination.
Mature Tree Size
Make sure you pick the right size tree for your available space. When our pear trees mature, they will be one of two sizes:
- Dwarf Pear Trees mature to be about 8-10' tall and 6-7' wide. Even though they are smaller, they produce an abundance of full-size fruit.
- Standard Pear Trees mature to be about 18-20' tall and 12-13' wide. They are perfect if you want a multi-purpose shade tree.
