Why did you choose this?

I’m an Upstate New Yorker at heart - great apple all around! Excited to grow it!

I have purchased Macoun apples from my grocery store in the past and I love the flavor and crispness. They're like a better Mac.

Macoun are my favorite apple variety.

Delicious apples!

What kind of dirt mix for a Macoun apple tree?

If you're planning on planting this in a container, any good potting soil will do - please make sure it is not a moisture-retaining mix, and that will likely cause root rot. If you are planting in the ground, all fruit trees like loamy soil. Apple trees prefer a pH between 5.8 and 7.0. Around 6.0 is ideal.

From planting, when do they bear fruit?

We appreciate you reaching out to us. You can find the years-to-bear information in the Characteristics section, near the top of the page, underneath the description. This tree takes 2-4 years to bear.

If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to reach back out to us. Have a great day!

how disease resistant is this one?

This variety is resistant to rust and mildew but susceptible to fireblight and scab

What is closest to a Granny Smith to pollinate with a Macoun?

If you looking for greenish apple it would be Gingergold, or Prestine.

What color are the blossoms?

Unfortunately, I haven't gotten to that point yet. Still trying to get it to grow a little. But, I can say I've had better luck with peach trees. AND, I would suspect nectarines would be a good choice since they are related to peaches. Apples have to be kept sprayed or dusted for various deaseses; and. Need sun and pruning.

I only have room for one tree. Do macoun trees need cross pollinators?

Yes they do need cross pollination. Either a crabapple or a Honeycrisp or an Empire. I have all three. There are more to select if you don’t like those. You can do a google search.

Can I plant a pink lady with this tree for cross pollination?

Yes as they both a mid season bloom time.

Will Cortland, Macoun and Chenango Strawberry work together as pollinators?

Yes these all have overlapping bloom times so pollination should work between all 3 variaties.

Can you espalier a Macoun apple tree?

Short answer is: yes. You can espalier practically any fruit tree, including this tree. The dwarf size is the easiest to espalier. good fall apple
I bought the llarger sized tree in the 6x6 inch black plastic growing tube. Been behaving well. Planted it towards the end of july If I recall. Keep it watered and it'll be ok. Macoun is decently disease free too. Looks like when you buy the 6x6 semi-standard, it sure looks like it's on B118 roots, although they do not disclose.
