Description

The best avocado for guacamole!

The Super Hass Avocado fruit is larger than the regular Hass and has a longer shelf life. Known for its classic buttery-nut flavor, this variety is loved throughout the world. The fruit, when ripened, is purple in color with small bumps on the skin.

Avocado trees are dense, evergreen trees that grow fast in tropical climates. These trees are remarkable in their ability to thrive under a broad range of environmental conditions. Avocado trees prefer mild temperatures, good draining soil, humidity, and 6 hours of sun. The Super Hass is a more frost-sensitive variety.

When planted in the ground, the Super Hass Avocado Tree can reach a mature size of about 25 feet tall and can be kept even smaller by pruning. When growing in a container, make sure the soil completely dries out before watering again deeply. These trees have shallow roots, so be sure to choose a container that is just as wide as it is tall. Good drainage is key.

Avocado trees are self-pollinating and you’ll get a nice harvest with just one tree. They don’t require another variety in order to produce fruit. However, having a Type A and Type B avocado tree increases the chance of successful pollination and fruit set. Super Hass is a type A, with avocados ripening from September through October.

Always wanted an Avacado tree! Hope this is a great one.

Does the avocado tree only grow to size of pot?

No, and the pot should be changed if you plant to grow in a container. Start with a 6- to 8-inch-diameter pot, with good drainage holes. You can transplant to larger pots as your tree grows over the years.

Can this be grown inside in pots with grow lights?

You can grow almost anything in a container! This excellent article will answer your questions and provide good advice. Please see "Growing Fruit Trees in Containers" //www.starkbros.com/growing-guide/article/fruit-trees-in-containers-pt1

How will this avocado tree do in the intense sun and temperatures of Phoenix AZ?

I used to live in CA before I moved to CO. The hass avocado tree has been growing nicely because I have it in a controlled environment. Because AZ is so hot your tree should do nicely outside. I had a new hass in CA and it grew and produced Avocados its first year. I would watch it carefully to see that it does dry out. Mine loved water. Good luck.

Is this really a seedling as mentioned below? Avocados do not grow true to seed, so if this is not grafted, then it is not a Super Hass tree.

The propagation method of the avacado trees is a seedling translplant.

Is super hass grown from seed or grafted?

How do you tell a type A from a type B avocado tree?  I have one tree in a greenhouse which flowers but never produce fruit.

Type A avocados bloom with their female reproductive parts available first, and do so in the morning. Type B avocado flowers also open in the morning, but in their male phase. Then, each of them pull a switcheroo – and the flowers open as the opposite sex the following day in the afternoon.

Is there a way to stifle size of full grown tree in order to pull inside during winter?

Pruning this tree is the only way you wil lbe able to keep it smaller and of course being grown in a pot is going to restrict its size as well.

Avocado tree
The tree arrived with bugs and looking rather sad..... the delivery guy placed the package leaning up the garage so the car slightly ran over it when backing up. Called Stark bros and the wouldn't do anything!!!!! So I have been trying to revive the stupid thing every since. Their customer service was awful! I will never buy from them again. I suggest everyone do the same.... spend a few more dollars and get your plants somewhere else. It will be worth it! It's much better to start with a healthy plant than waste your time trying to revive one!

I would like to reserve my rating until next summer. I received my tree and transplanted it the next day. During the transplanting, I lost a lot of the roots because I had trouble getting it out of the shipping pot. I spoke with customer support and they said it should be OK. I placed it in a bright window and bought a plant light. It sprouted two sets of leaves but they are now dying. I am hoping that it will come out when I can put it out in the spring. I'll keep the light on and keep watering it. HOPING FOR THE BEST...
